Sanders family list of veterans grows with World War I addition

Another Pellyton veteran was sent to us and is now listed, "Thomas H. Sanders, WWI, Pellyton Community," was added this morning. Thanks to Mary Ann Blair and to all those who are helping us with the Adair County Veterans List project.

Could anyone give any firm figures on the number of men who have served from the area north of the river? Pellyton, Roley, and Knifley seem to show up often.
Mary Ann Blair's addition to the list brings the number of Sanders family members to either six or seven, depending on whether our two Charles Sanders entries are a duplication.

Gerald Doss: Asks for leads to find gas middle men

Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I seem to be stuck, I can't get in contact with gas dealers in Columbia, I'm trying to contact their home offices but can't find a way.

Meantime gas prices around us remain 20 cents per gallon less than Columbia, KY.

I still wonder why that is the case. Anyone with help on contacting the companies would be appreciated.

Band Detective learn that Marian Catholic never Class A Band

Comment on previous letter
Hey Ed,

I am forwarding this to you from the band director of Marian Catholic High School in Indiana. This email is in response to the inquiry of Class A bands beinga Bands of America Regional Champion.

Bryan Rich (band parent)The letter forwarded is this one, from Greg Bimm, Director of Bands, Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, IL:
Hello,

And congratulations! I am not sure but in my memory, Marian has always been in classAA until a few years ago when we moved into AAA by a few students. I do not remember any 1A bands winning a regional before, though there might have been a regional in Indiana around 1982 or 83 that Herscher High School won.
Take care.

s/Greg Bimm, Director of Bands, Marian Catholic High School

Chicago Heights, IL 60411
Thanks, Bryan Rich. We're getting closer. If all else fails, we can always take a short cut and ask Director Tim Allen. Bet he knows. It's a quandary. The answer IS important. But asking Mr. Allen would be like using a dictionary to solve a crossword puzzle. -CM

Beth Vanarsdale: Now I know the meaning of Eyes of Pride

An Adair County High School band parent, new to the group, eloquently expresses what it means to belong, to be a working part of the Adair County Marching Band's big, synergizing, and embracing family
By Beth Vanarsdale
Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

I get very emotional when I see the band play at their competitions! All their hard work and dedication really pays off when they get out on that field. It's just an amazing show to watch. I am so proud of each and everyone of you.

This past week I was having some tests done at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, and the tech doing my test was making small talk with me. She asked what I would be doing over the weekend and I told her, "I'll be in Tennessee. For a band competition."

She wanted to know where I was from and I answered, "Adair County." She said, "Oh no! The Gods of Bands!"

Feedback: Kenny Akin thinks 3rd school was Marian Catholic

The QUESTION: Who besides ACHS, Northwestern Leigh PA, in has won a BOA Regional among Class A Bands (the smallest division)?

To the Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I think it was Marian Catholic from IL. back in the mid 1980's. I could be wrong though. I can't confirm that it was Marian Catholic. The records on the BOA network only go back to 1985. There was a post on the BOA forums that stated it was Marian Catholic.
