Marching Band makes history
takes Bands of America Regional Championship

I am so proud of our students for having such a wonderful performance. - TIM ALLEN

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

The Adair County Marching Band made history this past Saturday, by being named the Bands of America Regional Champion in Clarksville, Tennessee. Twenty-four bands from Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, and Indiana competed at the prestigious event on the campus of Austin Peay University.

This is the first time that the Adair County Band has ever won an entire BOA Regional Championship. In addition, it is only the third time in BOA history that a Class A Band (the smallest division) has won an entire Regional Championship.

"t really helps justify the many hot hours of rehearsal that these fine young people have had to endure up to this point. I couldnt be happier for them, Director Tim Allen said.

Triumphant ACHS Band expected home between 12-1pm

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I just heard that the band was the overall winner at the Bands of America Regional compition in Clarksville, TN. This is a big achievement for these kids. There will be an escort for them when they return home somewhere between noon and 1:00pm today. As a band alumni, I would love to see the community come out and show pride when they return home.

Thank You,

Rev. Joey N. Welsh. CM Oct. 7, 2007, Fannie Hurst

ANOTHER ANGLE: the occasional musings of a Kentucky pastor
THAT WAS HER STORY, AND SHE STUCK TO IT

Reprinted with permission. Previously printed in Munfordville, Hart Co., KY The Hart County News-Herald, October 16, 2005

By The Rev. Joey N. Welsh

Fannie Hurst was one of a group of extraordinary American women authors who found success in the first half of the 20th century. Willa Cather (born in 1873), Edna Ferber (1885), Hurst (1889) and Pearl Buck (1892) could all tell a vivid story. They were quite popular in the decades stretching from World War I through the Franklin Roosevelt years. Cather and Ferber both received the Pulitzer Prize, and Buck received the Nobel Prize.

Owner of bridge landing says safety is reason for removal

Comment related to The Old Simon Finn/Kemp Bridge

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

To reply to Sharon's comment on the old Simon Finn (Kemp Bridge): I own the property that a portion of this bridge is on.

Yes, it has memories and I hate to see it go but I will admit I have made several phone calls to get it removed. I know this may upset some.

2007 Giles House Arts & Crafts Fair

Six George Kolbenschlag photographs accompany this article
Beautiful weather and a gentle breeze made the 2007 Giles House Arts & Crafts Fair one of the most enjoyable on record.

Even with the large number of competing events, a good crowd attended.

George Kolbenschlag attended the festival and brought back seven stunning photographs, including one mirrored image of the house from a different angle, which should become another Adair County icon.

From Commonweatlth News Center
Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Governor Ernie Fletcher has declared October 7-13 Fire Prevention Week in Kentucky.

The observance is part of a national, annual public education campaign designed to remind citizens of the need to take steps to reduce their chances of injury or death due to fire.

Governor Fletcher noted that fire safety is especially relevant now because of the dangerous wildfire conditions in Kentucky. The governor signed an executive order October 4, 2007, banning all outdoor burning across the state.

Letter: Bridge should have been left, reader maintains

Comment on The Old Simon Finn/Kemp Bridge
To the Editor, CM

It would be great if they could leave that bridge standing and build the new one up above or down below.I've never seen it, I don't think, but it seems to me it is a big part of that community.

It sad that they take away part of things in our life as we remember them growing up. They may take the bridge but they cannot take your memories. Thank God.

s/Sharon
