Jaycees Haunted House starts October 11, 2007

The Adair County Jaycees Halloween Haunted House, "Slaughterhouse Barn," will be offered for 12 nights beginning October 11, 2007, from 6:30-11:00pm each night.

According to the Adair County Jaycees, it is the scariest place around, and they bill it "South Central Kentucky's Premeire Haunted House," and extend a taunting invitation, "Dying for something fun to do? Then visit Slaughter Barn," warning, "Whatever you do, don't come alone."

Liberty, KY, mayor looking at payroll tax. Link

A story in the Liberty, KY, Casey County News online says that Liberty Mayor Steve Sweeney wants the city to consider a payroll tax.

"Payroll Tax?Mayor believes city, county could use stronger revenue stream" is by Donna Carman and was published October 3, 2007. The Casey County News article mentions results of payroll taxes in Boyle, Marion, and Lincoln Counties.

Neither the City of Columbia nor Adair County governments have a payroll tax now, but there is always talk about the revenue source, especially with the added jobs coming when the Super Wal-Mart store is complete at Holladay Place. Columbia does have one of the highest insurance premium taxes in the state.

I just checked kygasprices and found around us gas prices range from $2.47- $2.53 while our prices came down yesterday it is still $2.67 here in town.

ACRD will get demonstration of Asphalt Zipper

There will be a demonstration today, at 12:00noonCT, Friday, October 4, 2007 at the Adair County Road Department starting of an Asphalt Zipper

The Asphalt Zipper is a device which attaches to a front end loader and can be used to remove up to one mile of blacktop road in one day. The material would be recycled for repaving.

The Asphalt Zipper will then be taken to Hutchison Road for the ACRD and Adair Fiscal Court to see it in action.

Adair County will be hosting Taylor County Fiscal Court and Judge Eddie Rogers today, Friday, October 5, 2007.

The visitors will tour the Adair County Recycling Center to see how Adair County's very efficient recycling program operates.

Lindsey Wilson College senior midfielder Ryan Stewart scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to beat visiting Mid-Continent (KY) University 2-1 last night at Lindsey Wilson Park.

Stewart scored with 3:23 left in the first overtime from six yards out to help the No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders improve to 11-1-0 on the season.

"We can make a difference today." Those words by Peggy Lawson of the American Cancer Society summed up the purpose of Adair County's Second Annual Breast Cancer Awareness March, held Thursday, October 4, 2007.

More than 225 people participated in the march, which started at the Lindsey Wilson College Catherine Wilson Center and ended at the Columbia Downtown Square, where they heard from several activists and survivors.
