John Adair Fall Festival committee meets at 6:00pmCT

John Adair Intermediate will be having a Fall Festival Committee Meeting tonight at 6:00pmCT, tonight, October 2, 2007, in the JAIS Library. We are encouraging all parents of JAIS students and Teachers/Staff to attend. This will be the first JAIS Fall Festival in awhile and it's going to be great fun! Adair 2nd graders reading, doing math above U.S. average!

Results from GRADE reading tests, GMADE math tests are back and the results give reason for great sense of pride in all Adair Countians. It's not quite like Garrison Keillor's standard of all the kids are above average, but Adair County's second graders average above the average

Phyllis Curry, Instructional Supervisor for Adair County Schools, has more good news to follow the release early this morning of the exceptionally good results of the CATS (Commonwealth Accountability Testing System), testing of Adair County School District students.

Results of GRADE, the national reading test, and GMADE, the national math tests given to Adair County Second Graders are also back and they indicate that Adair County kids, on average, are doing better than average.

Ribbon cutting is Friday for Internet Center

The center is located at Jamestown & Montgomery Streets in the Robertson Pool Building.

Obituary: Larry J. Tabor, 60, dies in Chicago

Mr. Tabor was a member of a respected KY 704 area family with deep traditions here, significant Adair County name. Many relatives remain in Columbia area

Larry J. Tabor, 60, Chicago, IL, and formerly of Adair County, KY, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL.He was the son of the late Jessie Tabor and Mary Willis Burbridge of Fairplay, KY, who survives.

Clean up report for September 2007 shows improvement

Lisa Lee, Administrative Assistant in the office of Adair County CJE Ann Melton, and Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator have issued a report on the roadside clean up in Adair County for September 2007.

In all, 80.5 miles of highways were cleared of debris. A total of 647 bags of trash were picked up, Sinclair said. The amount of trash on the county's roadways is down, Sinclair said. "We are seeing an improvement over last year," he said.

Heartland Parkway meetings to be held in Columbia, and at CU

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled a public informational meeting regarding the Heartland Parkwayin Columbia. with another, earlier one, in Campbellsville.

The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2007 in Taylor County. The meeting will be held from 5:00pm 7:00pmET/4pm - 6pmCT at Campbellsville University in the Student Union Building, Campbellsville, Kentucky.

The second meeting will be in Adair County on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Lindsey Wilson College Dining Hall, Columbia, Kentucky from 5:00pm 7:00 pmCT.

All precinct poll worker jobs now filled

But County Clerk says to call in case worker needed on short notice

We currently have precincts workers at all precincts. However, there are occasionally openings at the last minute. Anyone willing to serve at the last minute can contact the office so we can notify them if they would be willing to work on short notice. I really appreciate the citizens who are willing to serve as precinct officers, your service is very important.

Gerald Doss: Gas remains 20-25 higher here

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Gas prices all around us range from $2.52-2.63 ,while here in Columbia, they remain at $2.79. That's quite a difference. Does anyone have any idea why our gas is always higher by 20-25 cents a gallon? I'd like to hear from you if you know the reason.

ACRD maintenance schedule, for Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007:

A.L. Sinclair (Solid Waste Coordinator/PRIDE Coordinator) and his roadside litter crew will be picking up trash Hwy W80 today, please slow down when traveling by workers.
The Road Department will be ditching and installing tiles on Walker Lane in District 7 today. At times this road may be closed.

The mowers will also be mowing in District 5 today.

Mayor Pat Bell, just back from a 10 day tour of Spain, presided at the brief Columbia City Council last night.

Mayor Bell returned Sunday and took a tour of the City to see new sidewalk construction completed by City Streets Superintendent Donnie Rowe while he was away. "They really look good," the Mayor said.

The Lindsey Wilson College womens soccer team won a battle of first-place Mid-South Conference soccer teams on Monday night, October 1, 2007, at Lindsey Wilson Park in Columbia, KY. The Blue Raiders ranked No. 3 in the NAIA defeated visiting Georgetown (KY) College 4-1.

The LWC men also beat Georgetown to remain perfect in conference play.

The Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary will have a Book Fair, Monday, October 1, and Tuesday, October 2, 2007, in the lobby of the hospital. Hours will be Monday, October 1, 11:00am to 6:00pmCT, and Tuesday, October 2, 2007, 7:00am to 2:00pmCT. A wide selection of books and other items can be purchased at discount prices. Six week Bible Study hosted by Miriam Hughes
Miriam Hughes will be hosting a 6-week Bible Study during the month of October-November on Tuesday nights at 550 Rocky Hill Road. The only Tuesday night they will not meet is October 23 because of the Community Revival by the Ministerial Association. Classes are October 2, 9, 1, & 30, and November 6 and 13, 2007. Pizza Hut Fundraiser for the Adair County Marching Band
The Adair County Marching Band will be having a "Fun"Draiser night at the local Pizza Hut on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, all day long. The band would sincerely appreciate anyone who could patronize this local business on Tuesday to help raise much needed funds for upcoming competitions. There will be coupons available the night of the fundraiser or you can get one off the bands personal website. Pizza Hut will donate 20% of all purchases to band.
