LWC to host 5 days for prospective students & families

Prospective students and their families will have five opportunities to attend one of Lindsey Wilson College's visitation days during the 2007-08 school year.

The college will host visitation days on: October 20, 2007; November 17, 2007; January 26, 2008; March 29, 2008; and April 19, 2008. The March 29 event is a talent showcase, which allows student-athletes, vocalists, pep band musicians and artists to show off their talents.

15 kids take part in Salvation Army camp

Local unit of SA meets each first Wednesday in Adair Annex

The Adair County Service Unit of The Salvation Army was able to provide a week long camp experience for 15 campers this summer.

Campers were Shiloh Collins, Jonathan Croghan, Bill Irvine, Brandon Irvine, Kristin Irvine, Vaughn MacRanszky, Shelby Morrison, Shane Noggler, Katie Ploss, Jacklyn Perdue, Travis Purdue, Austin Sinclair, Andrew Stotts, Jessie Stotts and Brandy Wright.

Courier-Journal editorial director David Hawpe will discuss the future of the media on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Lindsey Wilson College.

Hawpe will present The State of the Media at noon CT on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. He will be the September featured speaker of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, co-sponsor of his talk.

Adair County School Board meeting, September 6, 2007 report

ACT test scores show ACHS students slightly below state average, but has gender gap with boys, overall, trailing girls' numbers. Drug Policy approved. Premiere Drug Testing contract okayed, subject to changes. Mission statement approved. Logo/slogan contest with $150 prize initiated. Board gets guardedly optimistic report on bonding potential, possibility of major new project planning could come in 2008, if General Assembly action is favorable.

The first September meeting of the Adair County Board of Education was relatively brief, but it was long enough for the board to receive some favorable news on vectors for testing and school finance, to initiate a new Mission Statement be accompanied by a logo/slogan contest, and to adopt a drug policy and hire a drug testing firm.

With Chairman Mike Harris away, the gavel was in Vice-Chairman Greg Willis hand for the Thursday, September 6, meeting.

CJE receives word of grant to replace Creekbend bridge

Bridge grant is fourth Adair County has received from Fletcher administration since Judge Melton took office less than nine months ago. Call received Monday from Highway Commissioner Ginger Wells

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton has received a call yesterday that her request for a new bridge on Creek Bend Road to replace a failing existing one.

Creek Bend Road runs east off KY 55. The bridge is located in Magistrate Wid Harris' Second District of Adair County.

I have a puppy to give to a good home. It was dropped at my house. We have several dogs already and really don't need another one.

She looks to be a Jack Russell. She is very friendly and loves to play catch.

The Heartland Conference held yesterday at Pinewood Country Club in Columbia was not only a celebration of Adair County hospitality as host to the prestigious event, but also a day to be savored for the success of the ACHS Boys Golf team, which won the meet, and for the Girls as well.

It was a truly great day, too, for Lauren Goodin, whose outstanding play made her the top individual player of the meet. Matthew Poff was a Medalist in the boys' division.
