Ann Marr Duck, No. #78, wins historic first ever WQ Duck Race

A test run had assured race officials course a safe one, but no one counted on a Russell Creek reversing course, maroon a majority of the ducks up Sulphur Creek raising, for a few minutes, the unthinkable: Human intervention, a re-launch, and possible speculation over the race's fairness for decades. But patience prevailed, and in the end, it was a made-for-the-movies outcome.

By Ed Waggener

There were several anxious moments at the First Ever Columbia Parks & Recreation Board Race just completed at Sulphur Hole on Russell Creek, but after a race which took almost twice as long as the Parks & Recreation Test Run for the course, a winner finally reached the finish rope at 2:53:30pm.

The champion duck was raced by Ann Marr, a teacher at John Adair Middle School, who won the first and only prize, a gas grill donated by Reeder Appliances of Russell Springs, valued at over $450.00.
