2007-09-02 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. BUDDY WILSON has the best seat on the Square Sunday afternoon, in front of the Bank of Columbia, where he could do a little sidewalking superintending, overseeing the Moore Bros., set up for tomorrow's Buy, Sell, Swap & Trade Day. Many booths were already set up on Sunday. A big crowd is expected for he downtown event. As well, the first ever Wacky, Qwacky Duck Race will take place tomorrow afternoon and an Old Car Show gets underway with registration at 8:00am at the Adair County Fairgrounds.

LWC Fall Cultural Affairs Series starts Sept. 11, 2007

Lindsey Wilson College's 2007 fall Cultural Affairs Series offers a diversity of topics and performers. From well-known speakers to musicians to authors, the 2007 fall series offers a multitude of events.

"This fall's schedule is so full because the cultural affairs committee has received donations from friends of the college who like to support more events of this style," Hanna said. "I'm using more money than every before, and that's why there are so many events scheduled."

Adair, Green, Taylor Counties jobless rate jumps in July

Taylor, Adair, and Green, in that order, had spikes in unemployment in July which went counter to the state trend for July, the latest reporting period from the Kentucky Education Cabinet's Office of Employment and Training.
Taylor County's unemployment jumped 1.2%, Green and Adair, 0.7% for the month.

Adair County's workforce stood at 8,971 in July, third highest, after Pulaski (27,506) and Taylor(13,883) in the 10 county Lake Cumberland Area Development District.

I do not "do philosophy" as a friend of mine who "did" was fond of saying when telling folks what his occupation was. I'm not even a student of philosophy. At best I'm just a dabbler. Yet folks who follow that path have a great deal to tell us about ourselves and the nature of the world we inhabit.

Plato's metaphor using the cave as a description of reality suggests that what we think of as real is merely the flickering shadows of the ideal, which we cannot see, cast by a flame in the stygian darkness.

Bryant's Snackin Shack honored by Edmonton chamber

Bryant's Snackin' Schack, located at 3800 Greensburg Road, US 68 East of Edmonton, KY, was honored with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 1, 2007.

The ceremony was part of a grand opening for the restaurant, which is operated by Adair Countians Mike and Alveline Bryant and their son Kevin.

The business was formerly known as the Country Deli. The Bryant's menu includes country cooking fare. Mike Bryant was a chef at the Country Inn in Columbia when it was operated by J.W. Fletcher.

Clinton cyclist injured in collision with car

A Clinton County motorcyclist, George H. Butler, 47, Albany, suffered following a collision with an automobile he tried to pass.

The accident occurred Saturday, September 1, 2007, at 5:16pm, five miles east of Albany on KY 558.

Butler, who was not wearing a helmet, was treated and released for minor injuries at the Clinton County Hospital in Albany, KY.
