It's a done deal! Wal-Mart buys 20.9 acres at Holladay Place

Many believe development around interchange will get even more frenzied
By Ed Waggener

It's a done deal. And a huge one. A red letter day for Columbia.

Don and Eddie Franklin, Marshall Loy, and Richard L. Walker, owners of Holladay Place, Inc., have sold 20.9 acres of land to Wal-Mart.

The sale was completed today. The local bank for Holladay Place notified the owners at 3:52pm, Thursday, August 30, 2007, that Wal-Mart had wired the payment for the acreage. Richard Walker said that the deed to the property has now been transferred.

But, many local leaders believe that the completion of the sale means a further frenzy in development around the the interchange. A strip center with stores not presently in Columbia is expected and a major new fast food presence is expected.

Down Scenic KY 704: Ruby throated hummingbird

2007-08-30 - Tabor Community, Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo By Tony Harvey. TONY HARVEY CAPTURED THIS DELIGHTFUL HUMMINGBIRD IMAGE DOWN ON KY 704: He writes, "It's been quite awhile since I've submitted anything to CM, the hot weather has been keeping me indoors. We have several Ruby Throats that come to our feeders, it's nearly impossible to get a good image while they're feeding. I find it much easier to capture a good image while they're perched on nearby branches. This was taken last Monday here at our home in the Tabor community. Hope the readers enjoy it. I enjoy all of the images submitted here at CM, but if I were to pick a favorite it would be Ms. Betty Jaspers' submissions, we seem to have a eye for the same type of image. Keep up the great work Ms. Jasper!"
