Trooper B.J. Burton indicted by Adair County Grand Jury

Judge Weddle orders summons for Trooper Burton, agrees to Special Prosecutor's request that Trooper Burton not be allowed to carry a weapon. Billy Phillips' family had waited all day.

Adair County Grand Jury has just returned an indictment against Kentucky State Police Trooper B.J. Burton. Trooper Burton will face one count of reckless homicide, a Class D Felony, punishable by 3-5 years.

The indictment follows the death of Billy Phillips, who died at 2:39pm CT, Monday, June 4, 2007, in the University of Kentucky Medical Center at Lexington, KY. where he had been airlifted to Lexington following severe injuries sustained at the Adair County Regional Jail on Friday, June 1, 2007, while in the custody of Trooper B.J. Burton.

Two local banks kick in for Helmets for Kids

Two local banks have given generous checks to provide helmets for Adair County children in the Helmets for Kids program sponsored by the Adair County Child Fatality Review Team, in a drive headed by the group's chairperson, Adair County Coroner Rick Wilson.

One check was presented by CEO Robert Flowers and Executive Vice President Chris Quinn of the Bank of Columbia to Ellen Zornes of the Fatality Review Team.

New Adair Health Department diabetes classes

A new session of diabetes self-management classes will start in September at the Adair County Health Department.

The classes are free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. The classes are 12-2pm CT on the following dates: September 6th, 13th, and 20th and October 4th, 11th, and 18th.

ACRD: Neat Hollow Road Project starts today

The Adair County Road Department will begin moving equipment to Neat Hollow Road in District 1 today to begin widening, ditching, and installing tiles, so the road can be blacktopped.

Columbian J. Willis named Asst. Director, LWC Student Activities

From Lindsey Wilson College Public Affairs

A class assignment helped Jordan Willis land a job at Lindsey Wilson College.

Willis has been named the college's assistant director of student activities and Grider Apartments manager.

As assistant director of student activities, Willis co-advises the Student Activities Board, supervises the Cralle Student Union Building game room, and organizes special events. As resident director of the Grider Apartments, Willis supervises residential upperclassmen.

The Owens family should know LWC administration and athletes do give back to the community. My step-daughter Rebecca Montgomery, plays soccer, and I know the help she's received from the LWC soccer program.
