A GIANT IN THE REALM OF RELIGIOUS THOUGHT - PART I
Theologian and philosopher Paul Tillich was born on August 20, 1886 in Starzeddel, Germany (now a part of Poland). This weekend anniversary of his birth gives us a good reason to remember the great man and recall some of his insights. Educated at several of Germanys leading universities - Berlin, Tubingen, Halle and Breslau - he received his Ph. D. in 1910 and was ordained in 1912. Serving as an army chaplain in World War I, he became a prominent theology professor in the years after the war.

Tom Chaney. July 29, 2007. on A.B. Guthrie, Jr.

Of Writers and Their Books, Book review: The Blue Hen's Chick, by A.B. Guthrie, Jr.

By Tom Chaney

My first teaching job was at Lees Junior College in Jackson, Kentucky, in the fall of 1962. Since I was in my early twenties and fresh out of graduate school, I knew everything there was to know about teaching, about how deans and college presidents should behave, and, of course, about what students should know.

That year I plumbed the depth of my ignorance and innocence. Fortunately little harm was done to the students because I had a far better teacher than they.

If you've read Joe Hare's accounts of his Vietnam days with the same interest so many have, you will likely want to vist John McCoy's website about Bravo Company, 2/28 Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. The site includes a link to CM and Sgt. Hare's account of the 2007 Reunion in Seattle.
