Nice Florida sea-bas catch carried back to Adair County

2007-07-01 - Florida . This picture was taken in June, 2007, somewhere south of Daytona, Florida, after some highly successful fishing. Jacob Cowan, Blake Cowan and Pa Rick Bault caught several sea-bass which were brought back to Kentucky to share a meal with Nannie and Pa Peanut McKinley.
Can't get to Daytona? The dry weather has created great fishing opportunities close to home. Click ReadMore for tips on Dry Summer 2007 Fishing in Kentucky.

Another issue: Is it Glens Fork? or Glensfork?

Could anybody help on this question of which is correct? Glens Fork? or Glensfork. When the question was put to a learned man from the area, whom we assumed could render a verdict, this was his reply:
Don't know which rendering is correct. I assumed it was named for the creek, Glens Fork of ( I assume ) Russell Creek. Growing up I never was faced with this dilemma; it was uniformly Hardscratch. Only city folks called it Glens Fork and we didn't pay much attention to them.
Not exactly definitive. That was from David Rosenbaum. At ColumbiaMagazine.com we receive reports from educated correspondents who spell the proper name of the community both ways. I would assume the one word spelling of Hardscratch has been validated. At least we are that far along. Opinions will be appreciated concerning the balance of the controversy. -Ed.

New Adair County geological map will help builders

John Halsey of Knifley has written us that a new easy-to-understand geological map is now available from the Kentucky Geologic Service (KGS).

The map was developed with non-geologists in mind, so it's easy for most people to understand.

The map has many familiar photos from Adair County, along with lots of details (407 square miles, highest elevation 1,120 feet near Sparksville; lowest 585 feet where Russell Creek leaves the county, etc.)
