West Family Reunion Saturday, July 7, 2007

West Family Reunion: Descendants of Thornton West and Malvina McDonald, will hold their annual reunion at Barnett's Creek UM Church picnic shelter on Saturday, July 7. Maurice Cheatham is welcoming to visitors who like to admire his and wife Juanita's beautiful vegetable garden on South High Street. The Cheathams don't mind the attention, writer Barbara Armitage saying "They are the the friendliest people you'll ever meet." The green polebean tepees add pleasing interest to the townscape and provide healthy exercie, though their main purpose is adding better taste to summer menus.

14th season Main Stage schedule at Star Theater

Two Columbians, Benson Sexton and Shawn Samuell will star in "Little House of Horrors" in October; in addition to six Main Stage performances, Star Theater in Russell Springs will have other offerings, including Dr. Lynnwood Montell. Shawn Samuell and Guests will perform in September 2007.

The Russell County Arts Council has announced an ambitious schedule of shows for the 14th season of Main Stage productions at the Star Theater in Russell Springs.

Adair Democratic Executive Board to plan Fair strategy

Party invites prospective District 1 Magistrate candidate
Evelyn Phelps, Adair County Democratic Party Chairman, announces that on Tuesday, July 3, 2003, the 18-member board will meet to plan strategy for the Adair County Fair, discuss naming a candidate for Magistrate in the First District, and other party business.

The meeting will start at 6:00pm 2007, at the office of office of R.L. Walker at the corner of Burkesville and South Fortune Streets. The Party has a booth rented at the fair, and will be holding a raffle for $250.00 worth of gasoline.

The newest traffic jam in Columbia may be behind Maurice and Juanita Cheathams home on South High Street, less than three blocks from the Columbia Square.

Everyone who drives by seems to be fascinated by the lush green vegetable garden in their back yard. Maurice Cheathams garden is an oasis in the middle of a severe drought and with vegetable gardens drying up right and left I had to know his secret.

Obituary: Christine Bardin, 82, member Trinity UMC

Mrs. Bardin was a resident of the Bliss Community for most of her life. She was the head of large, prominent Adair County family and was retired after a career as a cook with the Adair County Board of Education

Christine Bardin, 82, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at 12:45pm at Summit Manor Health & Rehab in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, July 2, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Jim Goff and Bro. Jamie Bryant the officiating clergy.

Summer reading program has a lot more in July

July 11, at Adair County Fair; July 17, Animal Gambill at ACPL; and chance to win ticket to Picnic and Scavenger Hunt at Giles House

Staff from the Adair County Public Library and the Adair County School District have been hosting a Summer Reading Program throughout the month of June. In July we have even more plans.

On July 11th we will celebrate National Summer Learning Day at the Adair County Fair. We invite everyone to stop by our tent for games, prizes and information on Summer Learning.

Driver loses control in curve, overturns, on US 127

Thomas Dyer, 47, Albany, KY, was operating a 1989 Dodge south on US 127, three miles south of Albany, when he lost control of the vehicle in a a curve and overturned.

Dyer, who was not belted, was admitted to Clinton County Hospital in Albany.
