11 horses seized, Knifley woman arrested today

One horse euthanized after 911 call, Adair County Sheriff's investigation; email from "The Accused" says horse which was euthanized was maliciously poisoned and maintains only other horse in poor condition was a weanling
An Adair County woman was arrested today, Wednesday, June 27, 2007, after the Adair County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call regarding a horse possibly being dead in a field on Elkhorn Road in Knifley, KY.Adair County Deputy Sheriff Bruce McCloud investigated and found the animal was still alive, but, according to the sheriffs' report, its condition required euthanization by a vet.

CM Note (added 4:14am, 6/28/2007: An email received overnight signed only "The Accused" says that the animal which was euthanized was poisoned by an enemy and maintains that only one other horse, a weanling, was in poor condition.-Editor.

Obituary: Myrtle Loy, 72, member Columbia Community Church

Mrs. Loy was a member of a large, respected South Adair County family; she had retired from Union Underwear after 28 years of service there.
Myrtle Loy, 72, 203 Bomar Heights, Columbia, KY, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at 5:20pm at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.

The funeral service will be Friday, June 29, 2007, at 2:00pm at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Carl Froedge officiating. Interment will be in Stone Cemetery at Fairplay, KY.

Yes. Just so you and others will know the problem wasn't on your end, our server was knocked out by a power outage in Texas today. It was a doozy, but the guys there had us back up and running after about six hours or so. -ED.

Obituary: Don Huddleston, 57, Vietnam veteran

Donald K. Huddleston, Campbellsville, KY, died at 12:58 A.M., Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in Campbellsville at the age of 57.

The funeral service is at 2pmET/1pmCT, Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with Dr. Paul W. Patton & Joe Hatchett offficiating. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

He was the husband of Janella Huddleston, a former resident of Highway 206, Columbia, KY, and a teacher at Adair County High School who had only recently retired.

Gradyville roadside markers installation Thursday at 8:30am CT

Roadside markers will be installed at Gradyville in the morning, Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 8:30am. The signs will be located by the Gradyville voting house on the grounds of Daryl & Frances Salyers' D&F Grocery and Deli, Edmonton Road (KY 80), Gradyville, KY.

One of the signs commemorates the tragic Gradyville Flood of June 7, 1907; the other marks the hometown and birthplace of Ed Diddle, the fabulous--and very colorful--Western Kentucky University basketball coach.

Dylan wins 2 of 2 robotics contests at Texas A & M

Dylan Claiborne won the second of two robotics contests at Texas A & M yesterday. He called his parents last night to let them know.

The contests are part of a college level course the Adair County Middle School seventh grader is taking. In the contests, Dylan is competing with many students much older, ranging up to 10th grade.

He'll be in the eighth grade at ACMS when he returns to school on August 9, 2007.

LWC Track Star Amanda Johnson 7th in national event

Amanda Johnson placed at USA Junior Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IN--Lindsey Wilson rising track star, sophomore Amanda Johnson, finished seventh in the women's 10,000 meter Race Walk at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships on Sunday.

The Morganfield, KY, native, finished with a time of 58 minutes and 57.27 seconds.

Driver hits tree on Snake Creek road after being blinded by sun

An injury accident occurred at 4:45pm, Tuesday, June 26, six miles east of Columbia on Snake Creek Road. Elizabeth York, 20, Columbia, KY, was traveling west in a 1997 Taurus on Snake Creek Road, was blinded by the sun and ran off the road and struck at tree. She was treated and released at Westlake Regional Hospital. Trooper BJ Burton investigated the accident.
