Ban on Open Burning, Effective Immediately

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton has signed an Executive Order declaring a ban on open burning in Adair County, effective immediately.

No person shall light or maintain an open fire at any location in Adair County while this ban is in effect. Any person violating this ban shall be subject to fines and penalties.

This ban shall remain in effect until further notice.

First District Magistrate Roger Stephens resigns

He was an Independent voice on court who always did what he thought was right. He's taking position with Kentucky Highway Department. Resignation is effective immediately. He was independent, and respected.
Party naming process will pick nominees for Fall 2007 election. Names must be filed in County Court Clerk's office by 4:00pm August 14, 2007, Secretary of State office spokesperson Mary Ann Helm says.

The Adair County Fiscal Court lost a straight shooter, one of its most independent voices ever, with the resignation of First District Magistrate Roger Stephens, who handed in a brief statement to Adair County Finance Officer Gale Cowan this morning in the office of Adair County Judge Ann Melton.

Stephens will be taking a position with the Kentucky Department of Highways at its District 8 headquarters in Somerset in the Permits Department. The job will mean daily travel to the office there, Mr. Stephens said. "But it is something I've wanted for a long time."
