Feedback: On Ralph & Glinda Waggener family photo

To Glinda and Ralph-

What a beautiful family you have!

I worked with Glinda at the news office when I was at Lindsey.

To this day I'm a pretty good proof reader!

Sharon and Lee were always at Columbia Baptist, sitting next to Mrs. Waggener.

I enjoyed seeing the family picture!

Feedback: Georgia Hatfield likes #3 logo, horizontal concept

I vote for # 3. It has the colors of what a park should look like. Green and orange. Earth colors.

Feedback: Ref #3 Logo shows colors of nature

I like the #3 logo because of the bright colors, contrast and the horizontal shape. It is more appealing and shows the colors of nature.

Feedback: For P&R logo Ref: #1. Serene concept

This is the best logo. It is the most professional design.

The sepia, orange and green colors work well together.

I feel like I can walk through that park.

Birthday dinner is surprise for Ralph Waggener

Ralph Waggener was given a surprise birthday party, eight days after his actual birthday, on Sunday, June 10, 2007.

The delay was to allow his daughter Sharon Green, and sons, to fly from their new home in Florida, after the end of the boys' school year.

Present for the event, were his wife, Glinda Waggener and the following:

Daughter Sharon Green, and grandsons Stephen and Andrew Green of Tampa, Florida, and their Leitchfield, KY friend Anthony; daughter Lee Grider with granddaughter Emma, and grandsons Zachary and Joseph Grider; and son Doug Waggener and Brandi Johnson, and grandchildren Sydney, Garret, and Jadelyn Waggener, the newest grandchild.

Also, sisters Annette Richards and Fay McKinley, and older brother Ed Waggener and his wife Linda Waggener.

Also, friends Wayne Pickett and her daughter, Donna Jones; Sue Sandusky, and Pat and Martha Bell.

A telephone call was also received from sister Jean Cravens in Indianapolis, IN, Ralph Waggener's only other living sibling.
A delicious buffet meal was catered by Chef Paula Miller. The birthday party was a complete surprise for Ralph Roy, with Pat Bell in charge of keeping him out of the house and out of the way while preparations were made.

The cover was a trip to Russell County to find a man from McCreary County who rebuilds cars. It involved many stops in Russell Springs, Jamestown, Phelps acres and a detour to avoid the Cedar Creek bridge construction site, and was carried out with James Bond precision.

A good time was had by all.

Gradyville Flood: Ottillia Scott Bell Credited With Saving Lives

This article first appeared in issue 14, and was written by Geniece Leftwich Marcum.
By Geniece Leftwich Marcum
as told to her daughter Linda

I remember hearing all my growing up years about my Great Aunt Ott who had been credited by witnesses as having saved lives the night of the 1907 Gradyville flood. Great Aunt Ott (short for Ottilia) was a sister to my father's mother, Caroline Isabelle Scott, wife of John Robert Leftwich. The sisters were among the children of Robert Winfield Scott of Metcalfe County.

Aunt Ott married Clayton Bell and they lived in Gradyville, a thriving community in the western edge of Adair County, about fifteen miles east of Edmonton where Walter Scott and Addie Turner Leftwich raised me.
