Shawn Samuell and Friends, Sat., June 9, 2007, at Dream Depot

Local singer Shawn Samuell has put together a show filled with musical entertainment for Saturday night June 9 . Also, singing in the show will be other local talent.

Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. For reservations, call 270-634-2894 or 270-378-0259.

Remembering Billy Phillips: In happier times

This is the most recent photograph we have of Billy Phillips, with his wife, Jelaine Phillips, a health education instructor at the Adair County Health Department. The photo was taken at the Phillps' church home, Trinity United Methodist, at a fund raiser in November 2006, for the late Tyler Jessee. Mr. Phillips died today at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Further details will be announced as they are received.

Word comes of the death of Billy Phillips

Updated at 8:00pm, Monday, June 4, 2007
The sad news of the death of Columbia painting contractor Billy Phillips has reached us.

Mr. Phillips died at 2:39pm CT, today, Monday, June 4, 2007. Mr. Phillips was in the University of Kentucky Medical Center at Lexington, KY at the time of his death.He had been airlifted to Lexington following severe injuries sustained Friday, June 1, 2007.

The family has chosen Stotts, Phelps, McQueary Funeral to provide funeral arrangments. The plans may be made public as early as Tuesday or Wednesday. Details will be announced as soon as they are received.

We encourage readers to share remembrances of Mr. Phillips and to send prayer thoughts for the family.

Pennebaker scholarships assist MAE students at CU

Lisa Curry, Greensburg; Linsey Engle, Meade Co.; and Kenneth Shadoan, Madison Co., are this years recipients

Campbellsville University's School of Education recognized and honored the recipients of the Pennebaker Scholarship Award recently at a reception in the Administration Building.

Lisa Curry of Greensburg, Lindsey Engle from Meade County and Kenneth Shadoan from Madison County were honored during the ceremony which was attended by Jean Pennebaker of Campbellsville, the scholarship donor.

Adair/Casey Drug Court tops in pop tab contributions

Ronald McDonald House charities sells the tabs and the money goes to help families who stay at the house while their children are in a nearby hospital

On May 22, 2007 40 Drug Court programs across the state donated their pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House, for a total of 3,354 pounds. Adair/Casey Drug Court donated 1,337 of the total pounds.

The total contributed for the local drug court was the highest in the state, and actually accounted for just a 39.86% of all the pop tabs contributed across the state!

Chief Harris issues May 2007 CPD activity report

Columbia Police Chief Mark D. Harris has issued the activity report for the department for May 2007.

The report shows that 104 citations were issued and that the department answered 484 calls for service in May.

The report does not include parking citations; that report will be issued at tonight's City Council meeting, Chief Harris said.

New parking tickets are being printed, Chief Harris said, which has delayed the crackdown on illegal parking on in the downtown area. "Tracking the numbers some of the council members want also delayed the activity report for parking," he added.

Obituary: Bobby Ray Graves, 70, member 2nd Christian

Mr. Graves was a highly respected farmer of the Gradyville/Bliss area who had recently retired to Columbia. He was the head of a large, prominent western Adair County family. He leaves a 32 living descendants.

Bobby Ray Graves, 70, 209 West Frazier Avenue, Columbia, KY, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 1:23pm at Norton-Suburban Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The funeral service will be Thursday, June 7, at 1:00pm CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with burial to follow in Dudley Cemetery.

Drugs, dynamite seized in Knock and Talk bust

Green County man will be indicted. Consented to search after police received an anonymous tip

A Green County man, Lawrence Yates, has 20 pounds of marijuana, 15 guns, and several sticks of dynamite seized following a "Knock and Talk" visit in which Yates consented to a search of his residence. He will be indicted at a later date.

The Knock and Talk visit and the search took place on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, and was carried out by units of the Kentucky State Police West Drug Enforcement Branch, Bowling Green, KY; KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY; the Greensburg Police Department, and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Fireams.

The operation followed an anonymous tip that Yates was in possession of dynamite and a large quantity of marijuana.

Work on the repaving of the airport runways at the Columbia-Adair County Airport is underway starting today, Monday, June 4, 2007.

State Police charge Clinton wife in shooting Sunday night

A Clinton County man, Teddy Albertson, 61, Albany, was taken to the Clinton County Hospital and transferred to the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington,KY, for treatment following a shooting incident that occurred near the Wayne County Line just off KY 90.

His wife, Linda Anderson, 58, Albany, was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and was lodged in the Clinton County Detention Center.

At approximately 9:00pm last night, Sunday, June 3, 2007, the Kentucky State Police 15, Columbia, KY, received a call for assistance from the Clinton County Sheriff's Office in reference to a shooting inciednt off KY 90. When officers arrived on the scene they found that Teddy Albertson had been shot multiple times.

Linda Anderson was arrested by Trooper Bradley Stotts of the Columbia Post, who continues the investigation.
