Over 1,000 at Catch-A-Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby

WOLF CREEK NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY, KY - Over a thousand people showed up Saturday, June 2, to enjoy the twenty-first annual Catch-A-Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby held at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery.

Visitors from local and afar brought children of all ages to the event to let them try their luck at some trout fishing and prize winning.

Breeding resident's life saved by smoke detector

A fire took took the home of William G. Staley two weeks ago, but a smoke detector saved his life.

Staley is a retired nuclear engineer, who moved to the Breeding area from California a few years ago.

Construction on Western Bypass full steam ahead

GPS equipment is used to to make excavating exact. Dry weather is helping contractors move ahead with construction, moving much faster than they otherwise could have done with normal rains. Utilities relocation well underay

Construction of the Columbia Western Bypass is proceeding "full steam ahead", as the lack of rain has been beneficial to the progress of construction, with some ultra modern equipment on the job.

Contractors are taking advantage of the extremely dry weather to get ahead of schedule. While low rainfall has been damaging to crops, it has been a boon to the contractors.

Columbia man airlifted to UK Medical Center after incident at jail

An arrest yesterday afternoon was followed by an assault on a police officer and an altercation, according to a KSP report, which resulted in Billy Phillips, 53, Columbia, KY, being transported from the Adair County Regional Jail to the Westlake Regional Hospital helipad, then to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY, via helicopter.

At approximately 4:31pm, Kentucky State Police Trooper BJ Burton arrested Phillips on East 80 near the Adair/Russell County line. Phillips was charged with DUI 1st.
