It's official: 270 is split, but Adair keeps same area code!

Adair spared repeat of the anguish, the pain, the ignominy of eight years ago when we lost our 502 identity. Adair Countians won't have to reprint letterheads, advertising, or be out all the other expenses related to a new area code

From Commonwealth (State of KY) News Service

The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has decided to accommodate the rising demand for new telephone numbers in western Kentucky by splitting area code 270, with the eastern portion, including Adair County, retaining the current area code.

In an order issued today, the PSC said that the western portion of area code 270, which includes the cities of Henderson, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Murray and Paducah, will be assigned a new area code. Cities remaining in area code 270 include Bowling Green, Columbia, Glasgow, Elizabethtown and Owensboro.

PSC to decide split or overlay for 270 Area Code this morning

Answer will come shortly

The Kentucky Public Service Commission is to decide today whether to split the present Western Kentucky Area Code 270 and add a new Area Code, or to do an overlay.

A split would be along geographic lines, as the change eight years ago, when Adair Countians had to change area codes from 502 to 270.

Feedback: On good news for Timmy

To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

We have traveled from California to see the Kerns family for three years. This will be our 4th year.

Timmy is a sweet loving boy with a grin from ear to ear. He has been through so much in his young life, but always has that smile. He calls me "Grandma RV." He loves his Mom & Dad so much.

I think prayers have really helped him as much as doctors. Our prayers will always be with him.
