I was fixin' to get in a long and serious day of work this past Sunday. Filing from 1993 needs to be caught up. Taxes from about 1923 cry out for payment. I had thought of a Sunday morning nap.

Walter May, known to many folks in these parts as an actor and playwright masquerading as a notorious Lexington attorney, has written a play which was presented a couple of weeks back at the annual Kentucky Voices readings of new plays.

A Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting was held at Krafty Kreations on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. At the ceremony were, from left, Doug McCammishm manager, Columbia Division McCammish Mfg. Adair Countians reminded that Gov. Fletcher ACES Tuesday

A big reminder: Governor Ernie Fletcher will visit Columbia tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at 10:45amCT/11:45amET and participate in groundbreaking ceremonies for the Columbia bypass project. The $25 million dollar investment is a key component of improving the transportation network in Columbia and Adair County. The bypass is also part the the Governors planned Heartland Parkway corridor which will connect the Cumberland and Bluegrass Parkways. The event will take place at 10:45 local time at the Adair County Elementary School on Indian Drive. The public is invited to attend.Community leaders Judge Ann Melton, Mayor Pat Bell, and Chamber Executive Director Sue Stivers are making a special effort to get as large a crowd out as possible to show Governor Fletcher Adair County appreciates his efforts to make this dream a reality.

25 Adair County residents earn degrees at LWC

Complete list of Adair County Spring 2007 LWC graduates in this article

A total of 25 Adair County residents earned degrees from Lindsey Wilson College. The residents were among 182 graduates who participated in the colleges 85th commencement ceremony, held Saturday, May 12, in the colleges Biggers Sports Center.

In his commencement address, Lindsey Wilson Provost and Dean of Faculty William Julian told the graduates they were to come down off your mountain and make a difference in todays uncertain world.

WRH Auxiliary meets May 21, 2007

The Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary will meet Monday, May 21 at 6:30pm CT at the Hospital Cafe. All members are encouraged to attend. Adair County Road Department working in Districts 2, 3, & 6

The Adair County Road Department will be doing major road repairs in District 6, where Adair County Road Department will be digging up part of the Mt. Tussel Road, ditching, and fixing an entrance. Sections of the road had fallen apart.

Other work:District 2: A new tile will be installed on Conover Lane putting in a tile.

District 3: Some members of the ACRD will be working on the Loren Collins Road putting in a new tile.

District 6: ACRD crews are mowing on the roadsides in District 6.

Finally, closure may be near for the family of Emily Griffitt Anderson.The trial of her husband, Jerry Anderson, accused of her murder, starts this morning at 10amET/9amCT, at Gastonia, in Gaston County, North Carolina. The trial was moved there from Caldwell County, NC, after Anderson's attorneys argued that Anderson could not get a fair trial in Lenoir, where Anderson was first incarcerated.

Emily Griffitt grew up on Burkesville ST in Columbia, KY. The Andersons were recent residents of Adair County.

Tourism spending in Kentucky hits $10 billion

State also registers 23.8 percent increase from 2003-2006

Tourism spending in Kentucky in 2006 crossed the $10 billion mark for the first time, according to new statistics compiled by the Travel Industry Association (TIA).

That growth represents a 6.6 percent increase over 2005. The new report also shows 176,900 Kentuckians employed due to tourism, earning more than $3.36 billion in payroll income and paying more than $987 million in federal, state and local taxes.

This meeting rescheduled to Monday, May 21, 2007 for May 2007 Regular Monthly Meeting. 12:05 noon at the library, 307 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. The board regularly meets each second Monday at the library, at 12:05 noon.

3:00pm CT: Parent nominations ACMS/SBDM positions due
Nominations for two (2) parent positions on the Adair County Middle School Site Base Decision Making Council are due at the school on Monday, May 14, at 3:00pm CT. Nomination forms have been sent home with all 6th and 7th grade students in the school system. If you have not received a nomination form, you may pick one up at the Adair County Middle School front office. Election for parent positions will take place on Friday, May 18, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the office of the school. - CATHY LUTTRELL

4:00pm CT : Columbia-AC Water Commission
Special meeting time. Replaces Thursday, Mary 10, 2007 meeting. The Columbia-Adair County Water Commission holds Regular Second Thursday monthly meeting at the Adair County Water District office conference room on Grant Lane off the Campbellsville RD. Commission Chairman Rudy Higginbotham, Commissioners Robert Flowers, Junior Brown, June Parson, and Larry Legg. This commission is the governing body for the jointly operated Columbia-Adair County Water Plant now under construction.

6:00pm CT: Country Quilters Quilt Guild
