Karen Hamlett, 57, 402 L. Hancock RD, Columbia, KY, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 9:20pm at Norton Hospita in Louisville, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, May 14, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, with Bro. Terry White and Bro. Gilbert Harmon officiating.

THOMAS MARCUM 'TOM' WAGGENER received his Master's of Arts degree Friday evening, May 11, 2007, from Western Kentucky University, Potter College of Arts and Letters. Tom is the son of Ed and Linda Waggener of Columbia and a graduate of Adair County High School. He will reside in Shelbyville where he is a partner with his brother Pen and friend John Cox in the Sixth and Main Coffeehouse. He will also work at the Shelby County museum.

Ann Northrup campaigning this afternoon in Columbia

Ann Northup, candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor in the Tuesday, May 22, 2007, primary, will be in Columbia this afternoon, Friday, May 11, 2007.

Her schedule is as follows:
  • 1:30-2:30pm CT: Adair Elementary School.
  • 2:30-4:30pm CT: In downtown Columbia, going from store to store
  • 4:30-6:00pm CT: At Betty's OK Country Kitchen
  • 6:00-7:00pm CT: At the Joe Johnson Little League Park
Her publicist,Barry Peel, said that Northup will be in Green County visiting Greensburg and Green County country stores working toward Columbia. He was unsure as to whether Northup's running mate for lieutenant governor, Rep. Jeff Hoover, will accompany Northup.

Watch for road crews in District 1 and District 6

The Adair County Road Department will continue working in District 1 on the Neat Hollow Road today.

The ACRD will be mowing along side of the roads in District 6.

For your safety and the safety of the road crews, please drive carefully in these areas.

Benefit Poker Run for Raymond Grant, who has Lou Gehrig's

There will be a benefit poker run on May 12, 2007, starting at 11:00am CT, leaving from Christian Life Center on Hudson Street in Columbia. $10 a bike. $10 for benefit dinner: Pig roast, hamburgers, hotdogs and more. Dinner starts at 2:00pm at Christian Life Center. Donation and food is appreciated. The events will benefit for Raymond Grant, who has been diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. 28 Adair Countians will receive degrees at LWC May 12, 2007

List of all Adair graduates, their hometowns, degrees, and honors, listed in this article

Twenty-eight Adair Countians will be among the graduates at Lindsey Wilson's Spring Commencement tomorrow, Saturday, May 10, at 10:00am CT in Biggers Sports Arena.

Twenty-two of them will receive Bachelor of Arts degrees, five will earn Associate of Arts, and one, Katy Davis, Columdia will receive an ME degree in Counseling and Human Development, with associate honors.

Kentucky Attorney General sues Marathon over gas pricing

Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced litigation filed yesterday, Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Franklin Circuit Court against Marathon Oil Corporation, Marathon Petroleum Company, LLC and Speedway SuperAmerica, LLC, charging the corporations with profiteering during the time of emergency following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The companies are alleged to have overcharged Kentucky consumers more than $89 million in grossly excessive motor fuel pricing.

Teacher Appreciation Week: It is National Teacher Appreciation week all this week, May 7-11.

8:00am to 2:00pm. Kindergarten registration will be at Col. William Casey School on May 11 (and again on May 18) for all children (names A through Z). Aaran Taylor has dream come true

On Thursday, April 5, 2007, Aaran Taylor's dream became a reality. He has always been a huge NBA fan, with his favorite teams being Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat.

Spring break this year will be a time he will never forget, He got to see his favorite team, the Cleveland Cavaliers play the Miami Heat. And he was chosen out of the crowd to be a Courtside Kid. In a way, it was no surprise. This kid from Fairplay, KY, who attended Knifley schools, is one guy you just don't want to underestimate.

He's one of a kind, unique in so many ways, and not just that his first name has three A's. If you forget that, he'll let you know, but in a way that won't hurt your feelings. He's winning votes for whatever he wants everywhere he goes, all the time.
