So many wrote about Susie Grant and the little bird George Kolbenschlag, John Halsey, Frank Dickerson, Colleen Bardin, Dan Wilson, add to a Mrs. Grant's daughter, Hilda Smith's comments on the article. Story inspires Adair County author Debbie Sinclair to write a beautiful tribute to Mrs. Grant, to Debbie's own daughter, and to her wonderful parents, A.L. and Barbara Sinclair By Ed Waggener Not many stories in ColumbiaMagazine.com get as much feedback as we've gotten from the one which relates Susie Grant's delightful account of the little bird which flew into her storm door, was addled by the impact, but was still smart enough to know a friend when he saw one. We owe the story and the great photograph to Hilda Smith, Susie Grant's daughter. After the story came out, Hilda Smith wrote, "Thank you for a wonderful story on Mom," and we appreciate it, even though I know the story wasn't mine, it was Mrs. Grant's. I only regret that I couldn't total capture the wonderful humanity Susie Grant can express, or the joyous humor she can express.
