Adair Search and Rescue organizing May 3, 2007 By Greg Thomas, Adair Co. Emergency Management Director Adair Search and Rescue, (ASAR) a newly forming volunteer organization, will be having a meeting onThursday, May 3, 2007 at 6pm CT in the basement of the Adair County Annex. If you have already picked up a application for this organization and have not had a chance to turn it in you are encouraged to do so on Thursday night. Applications will be available at this meeting or may be obtained at the Adair County Judges office (384-4703) or from Adair County Emergency Management. OnThursday night bylaws will be available to see what direction the new organization will be taking. At this time Adair Search and Rescue's mission statementincludes: Tothe best of it's trained ability and equipment capability, assisting the county in storm spotting and severe weather, finding lost and missing individuals, and water recovery. Detective Alex Wesley seeks information on bomb threat On April 30, 2007, at around 10:22am, the Columbia State Police received a call from the Adair County Child Support Office stating that they had received several bomb threats in the last few minutes. The caller threatened to bomb the Adair County Courthouse. Officers from the Kentucky State Police Post, Adair County Sheriff's Office, Columbia Police Department, Columbia Street Department, State Fire Marshall's Office, and Adair County Emergency Management Services searched the Courthouse and did not locate any device. The Adair County Fire Depart was on standby at the fire house. Detective Alex Wesley of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, is the lead investigator. Downtown Columbia evacuated by bomb threat Update 12:24pm 4/30/2007. Traffic is flowing as normally through the Square. More on the story as information obtained. Story in progress By Ed Waggener It is eerily quiet in downtown Columbia right now. Downtown Columbia was evacuated at around 10:30am this morning, Monday, April 30, 2007 because of a bomb threat at the Adair County Court House. All offices and businesses on the Square were cleared by authorities. City Hall was voluntarily evacuated. Barricades have been set up at entrances at Burkesville and Fortune, at Monroe Street on Greensburg ST, Reed & Merchant on Campbellsville, and at Reed ST on Jamestown ST. State Police, Columbia Police, the State Fire Marshal and other officials are checking out the bomb threat. Mayor Pat Bell is out of town today. County to join in National Day of Prayer A community-wide prayer service will be held in Columbia in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3 at noon. The event is coordinated by the Adair County Ministerial Association and will be held on the steps of the courthouse annex. $500 reward for information on redbud vandals Public Notice The City of Columbia is offering a $500.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons vandalizing the newly planted trees along the sidewalk fronting the shopping center on Jamestown St. in front of IGA, Hallmark, area.
