Driver hospitalized after vehicle strikes tree

An injury accident occurred at 1:51pm, today, Friday, April 6, 2007, one-half mile north of St. Francis on KY 527.

Brandon L. Douglas, 18, Bardstown, KY, was northbound on KY 527 in a 1997 Saturn. The vehicle entered a curve, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Douglas was transported to Flaget Hospital in Bardstown.

O'Banion, at around 7:45pm on April 3, 2007, on the Taylor-Green County line. "She took pictures as the storm passed their neighbor's house. It was the first tornado that she had ever seen, in person, and she doesn't care if she will ever see one again," Clark wrote.

Adair County unemployment for 2006 was 5.6%

Adair County's unemployment rate of 5.6% for the year of 2006 was slightly lower than the statewide average of 5.7%, well below the Lake Cumberland rate of 6.4%, but well above the national rate of 4.6%.

Overall, Adair County stood 3rd in the 10-County Lake Cumberland Area Development District. Neighboring Taylor County's 4.9% rate was among the 10-best employment pictures in the state.

  4. Clinton County, 6.0%
  5. Pulaski, 6.5%
  6. Russell, 6.6%
  7. Wayne, 6.7%
  8. Casey County, 6.8%

  10. McQueary, 10.1%
McQueary County's 10.1% unemployment was the second highest in Kentucky for last year.

Neighboring Metcalfe County, in the Barren ADD, had 5.4% unemployed for the year. The numbers are according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training in the Kentucky Education Cabinet.

Mitzi's clothing store hasre-opened in the building behind the little white house which formerly housed the business. The store is accessed from the library parking lot. The Adair County Health Department will join with the the Lake Cumberland District Health Department is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Lake Cumberland District Health Department. This makes the Lake Cumberland District not only the largest health department district in the state of Kentucky, but also the oldest. April 6, 2007, from 9:00am to 11:00am CT, at the Adair County Health Center in the James C. Salato Building on Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY.

Friday, April 6, 2007: Good Friday Service
Columbia Baptist Church and the speaker will be Troy Elmore. No meal will be provided at the Good Friday Service. This is a community service, a program of the Columbia Ministerial Association. Members of all churches are invited.

No classes in Adair County Public Schools today. And today the hard working Central Office staff gets to enjoy a brief Spring Break. Central Office is closed today.
