Letter: Agrees with Marsha Walker on need for fairness

To the Editor:

I think Marsha Walker's idea on community service for littering is right on.

If someone litters, let them think about it while they are helping improve the community.

And I agree, it needs to be applied evenly.

Littering is a thoughtless thing to do, and there is no excuse for it,no matter who the litterer is.

s/George Kolbenschlag
Hope you'll be at the clean-up meeting: The meeting will be on Thursday, April 5, 2007, at 1:30pm in the City Council Room at City Hall on Campbellsville Street.

Letter: Backs tougher litter law enforcement

To the People of Adair County:

This note is just to remind the people of Adair County and Kentucky in a whole that you folks have the most beautiful state in the union. I have lived here going on eight years and have lived in 12 other states since I was 18 years old, but have never seen a state that has more beauty than Kentucky.

I remember the first year we lived here and I traveled the parkway to Glasgow to work and as the snow started to melt you could see all of the trash came out from underneath of the snow and I wondered to myself why would anyone throw their garbage out on the road in such a beautiful place.

Everyone in Kentucky should be proud of what they have and treasure it always. I'm for tougher laws on littering and so should everyone else be.

Feedback: Community service excellent solution for littering

To the Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com

I think community service would be an excellent solution to our littering problem. On a visit to Nashville several years ago, we took a city tour and saw a group of people in orange vests cleaning up the roadsides. The driver pointed out that these were citizens paying their court-ordered duties to the community.

Community service would likely be a more effective deterrent than fines or sentences. It would also be great if ALL citizens were treated the same, the "somebodies" and the "nobodies." This is a dream I have for our court system, and I hope to live long enough to see it happen.
