KSP arrests two in connection with burglaries, robbery

Two Pulaski Couny men were arrested today in connection with recent burglaries and also an armed robbery that occurred in Adair and Russell Counties.

Christopher E. Claxton, 27, and Brian Turner, 28, both of Somerset, KY, were arrested at 3:27pm today, Friday, March 30, 2007. Both suspects were charged with two counts of burglary 1st, stemming from incidents in Russell County and also burglary, robbery, and theft charges from Adair County.

LWC SGA sponsors successful blood drive

Lindsey Wilson College's Student Government Association sponsored a successful blood drive Thursday, March 29, 2007, at the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.

The Kentucky Blood Center collected 42 pints of blood, which will save 126 lives.

2007 Relay for Life: First National Golf Scramble, April 28

The First National Bank of Columbia will be hosting a Golf Scramble on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Pinewood Country Club. All proceeds will go to the Relay For Life fund. Registration will begin at 10:00am CT and tee off is at noon. Many prizes will be given away including a $10,000.00 cash prize for a hole in one. Miriam Vanarsdale one of 40 finalists in national competition

Over 400 cheerleaders were nominated for the finalist spots. "We are so proud of her," Coach Julie McQueary said.

Miriam Vanarsdale, the daughter of Ronnie and Sandra Vanarsdale of Columbia, KY, has been chosen as a finalist for National Cheerleader of the Year, in the National Cheerleader of the Year Scholarship Competition.

Miriam will travel to Fayetteville, NC May 17-20, 2007, for the event, which will be held in conjunction with the National Cheer Conference (NCC).

"It is a great honor," her coach at Adair County High School, Julie McQueary, said. "We are so proud of her."

Language Awareness Day at LWC is April 4, 2007

Lindsey Wilson College's International Student Program will host "Language Awareness Day" this week.The event will take place from 1-4pm. CT on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson international students will teach Lindsey Wilson students and employees and community members common phrases in 13 languages. Students teaching foreign languages include the following: Kazuki Kawashima, Hironori Morioka, Aline Decker, Naoko Kajitani, Marie Coyon, Tsion Derege, Eduard Cinel, and Gillian Bonner, Cesario Dos Santos, Mustafa Celik, Daniel Burlacu, Stellah Sang, Kyoko Tanaka, Natalia Yakimovich, Steve Wang, and Bonnie Misiko.

State Jaycees President to be at Crash for a Cure

Inspections start at 10:00am; the show starts at 5:00pm

Tomorrow night, Columbia is where important people will be, at the First Jaycees Crash for a Cure demolition derby at the Adair County Fairgrounds.

It's where Dr. Paula Hernandez, State President of the Kentucky Jaycees will be.

"I will definitely be attending the Demolition Derby this Saturday," Dr. Hernandez, State wrote yesterday. Also coming with her is the the Kentucky State Management Vice President, Cindy Witherspoon.
