Feedback: Writer takes issue with some of Tom Chaney article To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com: Frank Dickerson, a former resident of Adair County, sent me a copy of Mr. Chaney's article saying I might want to respond to him. I have no problem with Mr. Chaney's article except that it once again quotes Mr. Dizney. Although quoting him in some cases cannot be side-stepped, it still feeds his weird desire for infamy. Letter: Owner grieves for pet cat Zoe "I know I miss my Zoe terribly," Rhonda West says, relating, in moving detail, the story of the loss of a special family member, her cat, Zoe, who absolutely loved "Special Kitty," which may have been the cause of her death To ColumbiaMagazine.com Thank you your reply. I debated on who to send my original email to regarding the death of my pet and the recall. I noticed you mentioned a case on your site this morning. I do believe it is a high priority story and the problem is bound to get worse. As to my cat Zoe, I do think her death was caused by the recalled pet food. For 7 years I have purchased the wet food Special Kitty that is sold in the small pouches. She absolutely loved it and would eat 5-6 pouches a day. I will tell what happened in the span of only about 2 1/2 days. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2007-03-26 14:27:41 | Comments | Printable version

Tom Chaney, 25 March 2007 : Buried in the Bitter Waters Of writers and their books. Book Review: Elliott Jaspin's new book contains entry on bad chapter in Corbin history By Tom Chaney Your history is not my history In the late afternoon of September 30, 1919, the Corbin, Kentucky, municipal band had finished playing for a political rally. Deciding to march back to the school, they struck up "There'll be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight." The band found itself commandeered by a mob of 175 gun toting white men bent on rounding up all the Negroes in Corbin and herding them to the L&N Railroad depot for deportation. They were put on two trains -- one headed for Knoxville, the other for Lexington. In a few short days only three blacks were left in town. Melanie Ollery sends an update on Scrat To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com I have a cat in the vet hospital right now with some form of hepatitis and he is very anemic. He may need a blood transfusion if he makes it until Monday. They don't have a donor cat right now. They believe it is the food also. It has been reported that rat poison was put in the food. I read it in the Courier Journal over the weekend. All I know this family has been torn up for about a week now. It's the saddest thing to happen to us for quiet a while. Scrat is almost a year old. We have his brother here also and he has cried all weekend. Thanks a bunch. Melanie Ollery Click Here for a Calen McKinney story, "Pet Food Recall," at the CKNJ.com (Campbellsville, KY, Central Kentucky News Journal) website. The story is the best and most comprehensive story we've seen to date on the tainted pet food problem and includes a list of of products recalled. 2007-03-26 04:25:14 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
Letter: Reader wonders if pet food caused Scrat to suffer To the Editor, CM, Melanie Ollery has a cat that is in an animal hospital at this time. We think the cat, whose name is Scrat, is suffering from complications from eating the contaminated cat food. Melanies's mom, Martha Coffey, took Scrat back to the vet Friday. A reporter from the Central Kentucky News Journal, in Campbellsville, interviewed her and another cat owner and the story will be in their newspaper. I don't know which day the story will run.
