Hydroplaning blamed in injury accident on KY 206

The Adair County Sheriff's Department worked a one vehicle, injury accident approximately six miles from Columbia, KY, on the Liberty Road/KY 206. The incident occurred today, Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at around 9:00am CT.

Cagney Burton, 22, Columbia, KY, was driving a 1999 Toyota, westbound on KY 206, when the vehicle hit a pool of water, hydroplaned, left the roadway, broke a utility pole, ran through a yard,and struck a tree.

Burton was transported by private vehicle to Westlake Regional Hospital and was later transported to UL Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Charles Greer of the Adair County Sheriff's Department.

ACMS takes First Place in Pre-Season Tournament



2007-03-20 . The ACMS Lady Indians Softball team took first place in the Pre-Season tournament held on March 10, and 17, 2007. This was a double elimination tournament with Adair defeating Glasgow in the first round 1-0, Clinton Co. 12-2 and defeated Glasgow in the championship game 1-0. Members are; front row, Cassidy Taylor, Elisabeth Smith, Meridith Corbin, Payton Antle, Samantha Hadley, second row, Chanley Otterson, Kaylin Hughes, back row; asst. coach, Leigh Ann Loy, Heather Powell, manager Brook Harmon, McKenzie Martin, D.J. Ballou, Lee Anna Lewis, Malisha Hatcher, Hunter Rich, Haley Burton, back row, head coach Chris Downs, asst. coach Sandy Smith.

INVITATION TO BID: Employee health insurance

The Adair County Fiscal Court will be accepting sealed bids on health insurance for county employees until Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. cst., at which time the bids will be opened and awarded at a Special Called Fiscal Court Meeting. The meeting will be in the basement of the Annex Building, 424 Public Sq. Ste 1, and Columbia KY 42728. Information may be picked up at Adair County Judge Executive Ann Meltons Office. Renewal date is May 1st, 2007. The Adair County Fiscal Court reserves the right to accept or reject any and/or all bids. Adair 4-H Leadership Trip to Washington, DC

Members of the 4-H Leadership program attended a Leadership Trip to Washington DC on March 14-17, 2007.

Members who attended the trip were: Cassie Rogers, Julie Wilson, Presley Gaskin, Dariann Smith, Emily Burton, Leslie Cowan, Sean Keltner, Jason Keltner, Thomas Keltner, Megan Coffey, Shawnate Burton, Katlyn Wallace, Ashley Sullivan, Elijah Coffey, and Sarah Thompson.

Weather radios, early warning systems for downstream towns

Governor Ernie Fletcher announces new early warning system, free weather radios, and reverse 911 for several Russell, Clinton, Cumberland, and Clinton Community

FRANKFORT, KY Governor Ernie Fletcher today announced that several communities in Russell, Cumberland, Clinton and Monroe Counties will receive important early warning system equipment. Communities in each county will be provided a reverse 911 system, while a number of local citizens and businesses will be supplied with weather radios.

Additionally, the counties will receive an upgrade to their 911 systems by installing "enhanced" 911 in each county. Enhanced 911 provides 911 dispatchers with caller information on 911 calls.

Calm wind becoming east between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1am and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southeast wind around 8 mph.
