Adair Co. wins two firsts in State Governor's Cup competition!

Bethany Coffey, Luke Maupin have first place awards! Scarlett Willis and Ryan Montgomery win additional awards for five total Adair County victories in Governor's Cup Competition!

Barbara Shepherd emailed and called at 7:30pm, with this fantastic news."We have an update from the Governor's Cup. I just got a call from some very excited people: Tammy Rich, Sherry Stotts and Brett Reliford. They are dining at O'Charley's with their teams in Elizabethtown.

"They are headed home and claiming these titles from the State," Shepherd wrote, and included the specific winners below:
  • Bethany Coffey from Adair County High School
    • 1st Place in Future Problem Solving Scenario Writing
      She will now go on to compete in the National Level
  • Scarlett Willis from Adair County High School
    • 3rd Place in Future Problem Solving Scenario Writing
  • Luke Maupin from Adair County Middle School
    • 1st Place in Social Studies
    • 8th Place in Arts and Humanity
  • Ryan Montgomery from Adair County Middle School
    • 5th Place in Composition
The academic teams have given the people of Adair County one of their proudest moments ever!

Green River Road Race 2007: Leaving Shepherd School

Nineteen cyclists start out from Shepherd School on Saturday morning on the first lap of a 75 mile journey that will take them three times through Christine, across Snake Creek Road, up KY 551 to Knifley, across KY 76 to Neatsville, and up Little Cake Road to Purdy Separate Baptist Church.

Adair Headstart kids get aquatics training at Campbellsville U

Columbian Ken McAlpine is student instructor in program; Adair County Head Start teachers Connie Chapman, Mike Scott, Kay Nelson and Anita Wethington, participating in swimming program for pre-schoolers at Campbellsville University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Three hundred Head Start students, including kids from Adair County, are swimming under the direction of Dr. John Mark "Doc" Carter, professor of recreation and aquatics at Campbellsville University, this semester.

The students, from a five-county region of Central Kentucky, Adair, Casey, Green, Russell and Taylor, are involved in the Campbellsville University Academic Aquatics Management Minor Program.

Mandy Hagans is new LWC Evening College Director

New director lost race to be first in her family to graduate from college; her working dad beat her by two years--by going to night school.

Mandy Hagans has been named Lindsey Wilson College Evening Collegedirector.

Although new to the position, Hagans is no stranger to Lindsey Wilsonor Southcentral Kentucky. She's been associated with Lindsey Wilsonfor almost two years, as her husband, Edwin, is Lindsey Wilson's track& field and cross country coach. Hagans said she was drawn to the jobbecause she understands the educational needs of nontraditionalstudents.

Hagans was on track to be the first person in her family to graduatefrom college when her father earned his bachelor of arts degree bygoing to an evening college.

Mustang leaves highway, hits tree, early this A.M.

In an early morning accident, Gorge Martinez, operating a 1995 Ford Mustang, ran of the road three miles north of Liberty on KY 1659, struck a guardrail, and then a tree.

The crash occurred at 6:45pm this morning, Monday, March 19, 2007.

Martinez was not belted. He refused treatment. A passenger Ricardo Martinez, 22, Liberty, also unbelted, was treated and released at Casey County Hospital.

The incident was investigated by Trooper Toby Young, Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY.

103 USA Cycling riders complete in Green River Road Race

Six states represented. National Champions Curtis Tolson and Traci Huber are first here. Texas Roadhouse team, Louisville, KY, take first in 3 of 5 events. Adair Sheriff's Deparment, Adair EMTs, and especially Coach Jenifer Huff praised for success of first USA Cycling national event in the history of Adair County. Many photos attached. In the cold, windy weather on Saturday, March 17, 2007, the Green River Road Race hosted by the Lindsey Wilson College Cycling Team, 103 USA Cycling riders from 6 states started the event.

James Hebert came all the way from Fort Collins, Colorado and finished 4th in the Category 4/5 event.

National Champions Curtis Tolson and Traci Huber and several members of their Texas Roadhouse team came to race in Columbia and came away with 3 first place finishes out of the 5 events.

The riders really liked the course. Many said it was one of the toughest they had ridden but they would return to race in Columbia again.

Tonight: Periods of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 7pm and 11pm, then periods of showers, mainly between 11pm and 1am. Low around 49. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming northwest. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Afghan silent auction deadline has been changed

The date for the deadline for the silent auction by email of an afghan crocheted by Daniel Hutcheson has been delayed.

The auction will beneft the Columbia Baptist Church Youth Mission Trip.
