ACHS Quick Recall wins first round at State!

Just in at 10:26am CT, Monday, March 19, 2007: A report from Louisville is that Adair County High School, after leading the No. 1 Academic Team at half-time, lost ground in the second half of the Quick Recall Tournament, and lost 48-26, to Johnson Central High School, Paintsville, KY). Both the ACHS and ACMS teams are remaining in Louisville for the Awards Banquet this afternoon at which time reports from individual testing will be announced.
  • Adair County High School Score is 21-14 over Letcher Central in round one.
  • Adair County Middle School narrowly loses heartbreaker to Turkeyfoot, 26 to 28

The Quick Recall Academic Team from ACHS has made Sunday, March 18, 2007 another Red Letter Day for Adair County, and the Adair County Middle School acquitted itself with a super strong showing in a narrow loss to Turkeyfoot Elementary in competition at the Galt House in Louisville.

Coach Brett Reliford's ACHS Quick Recall team won their first round beating Letcher Central High School by a decisive 21-14 margin.There are 32 teams competing in the QR tournament, two from each region.

The Quick Recall team competitors are Matt Downen, Vicki Leibeck, Todd Smith and Megan White.

Commander Giles: LCDR Jeff Giles receives promotion in Iraq



2007-03-18 - Iraq - Photo Courtesy Mary Giles. Commander Giles! LCDR Jeff Giles, Columbia, KY, was promoted to Commander by Commodore Kate Gregory of the Thirtieth Naval Construction Regiment. The promotion occurred at Camp Moreell, Kuwait on February 23, 2007 on his way into Iraq. Commander Giles is now stationed in Fallujah, Iraq.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren luncheon Monday, March 19

We would like to remind all our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (or any family member other than the parent) who is the primary care giver to his/her grandchildren of the luncheon meeting, today, Monday, March 19, 2007, at 12:00 Noon, to be held at the Cooperative Extension Office on Fairground Street. This is the first and organizational meeting of this group.

Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren are faced with many challenges that are unique to this growing number of primary care givers. Debbie Cowan, Family Resource Center Coordinator for Adair County Elementary School and Ellen Zornes, Title IV, Safe and Drug Free Schools Coordinator, wrote and received two grants that will help to support this group, called The Grand Group. - ELLEN ZORNES
