Judge, Mayor honor 5th Region Champions with proclamation

Adair County Judge Ann Melton and Columbia Mayor Pat Bell signed a proclamation proclaim the week of March 18th to be: Adair County Boy's Basketball Week in Columbia and Adair County.Front row, from left: Tyler Curry. Adair County School Board agenda, March 15, 2007

Meeting starts at 7:00pm tonight in Adair County School Board Conference Room

The Adair County Board of Education will consider consider several important matters tonight at it's regular third Thursday, March 15, 2007 meeting, including the School Resource Officer contract with the City of Columbia, the opening date and enrollment procedures for the next school year, and consider a "good faith effort" testing policy. The latter deals with the school's tougher approach to test takers who intentionally underperform to put the teachers in a bad light.

Also on the agenda will be school reports on student data, the superintendent's report, and a Consent Agenda which includes final construction payments for the Adair County Elementary School, a payment to $86,754.60 on the athletic building, and consideration of some of the disputed work done on Adair County Elementary School.

April 20, 2007 new bid date for Columbia Western Bypass

The Columbia Utilities Commission received word today from the Kentucky Department of Highways, District 8, Somerset, KY, that the new bid date for the Columbia Western By-Pass Project is now set for April 20, 2007.

The bid date had earlier been announced for the last of March, 2007.

March 18, 2007 officially begins Adair Co. Boys Basketball Week

Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton and Columbia Mayor Pat Bell signed a proclamation today, Thursday, March 15, 2007, declaring the week of March 15, 2007, "Adair County Boy's Basketball Week."

The boys team will make the school's fourth appearance in it's history at the opening game of the Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena, Lexington, KY, on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at noon eastern time, agains Lincoln County High School, Stanford, KY.

State Tournament tickets on sale Friday, 8:00am-12:00noon

State Tournament tickets will be on sale at ACHS on Friday from 8:00 12:00. Tickets will only be sold to ACHS students (1 ticket per student) and the student must be present to purchase the ticket.

Students who would be interested in riding a pep bus next Wednesday need to have that decision made by Monday when they return to school in order to determine interest.

Airport Board meetings are now each third Tuesday

Lisa Lee of Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton's office has sent word that the Airport Board does not meet tonight. "The board meets each 3rd Tuesday at 6:00pm," she said. The next meeting of the Columbia-Adair County Airport Board will be Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at 6pm.

A request for a Conditional Use Permit in a C-3 Neighborhood Commercial Zone to construct a 2,400 sq. ft. building to serve as a Church for The Church in Jesus' Name. Property is located at 454 Tutt ST.
The hearing is open to the public.

Chamber will get update on Heartland Pkwy progress, Tuesday

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday, March 20 at 11:45 AM at Lindsey Wilson College Dining Center. Guest speaker will be John E. Chowning, Assistant to President, Campbellsville University and Chairman of the Heartland Parkway Citizens committee, who will give an update on the progress being made on the Heartland Parkway. The proposed Heartland Parkway would be the construction of a four-lane highway along the Kentucky 55 corridor starting at the Martha Layne Collins Bluegrass Parkway north of Springfield, Kentucky to the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway at Columbia. Corporate sponsors for the month will be Kessler Mortgage Company, Kevin, Donaldand Eddie Kessler, owners. All Chamber members are encouraged to attend. - SUE STIVERS

ACHS Principal Young announces tickets are on sale

Basketball Tickets for the State Tournament will go on sale at 9:00 a.m. this morning.

Tickets will only be available to students for purchase.

Faculty and staff should wait until Monday to purchase their tickets. The cost is $8.00.

Team BOLLA will be at Green River Road Race, Saturday

Team BOLLA: More on the participants in the Green River Road Race, which starts Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Purdy Separate Baptist Church on KY 206. It will be the first US Cycling national event ever held in Adair County.

Bolla Cycling will be on hand for the Green River Road Race. Bolla Cycling has entered its second year racing in the Midwest and Southern States. The team roster includes both women's and men's teams. Team members will compete in the Cat 1-2-3 and 3-4 racing categories on Saturday.

Kyle Loy one of 16 engineers at state conference

"I am very proud of Kyle and the work he did at KTLChe is an outstanding young man with great potential" - CHAD PARNELL

The Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference (KTLC) was held in Louisville on March 7-9, 2007, with more than 2,000 people from Kentuckys schools in attendance.

However, before the conference began, 16 students were hard at work making sure the conference would be a success.

One of those students was Kyle Loy who is a junior at Adair County High School.

Fifth Region Champions Adair County High School will play Lincoln County in the opening game of the Kentucky State High School Basketball Tournament in Lexington on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Game time is noon, Eastern Time. The Kentucky primary election is just 68 days from now. Spring break at Lindsey Wilson College and at Campbellsville University. It's 18 days until Spring Break in the Adair County School District, which starts April 2 and runs through April 6, 2007. More importantly, it is 39 days until testing time in Adair Schools.

I am a 1960 graduate and have attended every state tournament that ACHS has played in. I won't be able to attend this year. I am in Florida and will not be returning to Kentucky until April. However, I will be there in spirit.
