Circle R open this morning, Thursday, March 8, 2007

By Ed Waggener

The Circle R Family Restaurant, a southeastern United States landmark, is open this morning, Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 5:00am CT with new owners amd many familiar Circle R staff, to greet breakfast customers.

The new proprietors are David and Ingrid Hawkins, now of Holmes Bend Road, Columbia, KY. They are former Florida residents, originally from New Jersey. "The Garden State," Mr. Hawkins likes to remind people, telling them that fresh vegetables will again be an important part of the Circle R bill of fare, with the strong possibility that Circle R turnips will once more draw out-of-towners to Columbia if just for that one item, alone.

The Hawkinses plan some additions to the menu, including a top line of steaks, with the possibility of a prime rib night once a week.

Speeding, tailgating targeted; seatbelt use will be enforced

By Trooper Dwaine Barnett
Public Affairs Officer, Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

In March of 2006, 105 people were injured in automobile collisions within the Post 15 area. This was the highest one month total in 2006, based on crash data.

Several safety checkpoints, saturated patrols, and enforcement details are currently being planned with a goal of reducing injury accidents.

Officers will observe for any traffic violation with empasis on, but not limited to, DUIS,speeding, reckless driving, tailgating, and anyone not properly wearing a seatbelt.

This enforcement initiative kicked off this past weekend and will continue through the entire month of March.

Everyone is encouraged to do their part by observing posted speed limits and especially buckling up.
