It is of his Great Great Grandpappy George Dudley Harmon, whose descendants have contributed mightily to the strength of the families on The Ridge.

But occasionally, there was a tragic figure, such as the one who now lies in an unmarked grave at Bearwallow Cemetery.

CU Musicians take top honors at state conference

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY Campbellsville University's School of Music had thirteen musicians honored during the annual Kentucky Music Educators Association conference.

Dr. J. Robert Gaddis, dean of the school of music, said Campbellsville University was well represented at the 2007 KMEA conference, and he said "Campbellsville University music students can compete favorably with the best music students of any college or university in Kentucky."

CU Concert Band, TCHS Band in joint concert March 6

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. The Campbellsville University Concert Band will present a joint concert with the Taylor County High School Concert Band Tuesday, March 6 at 7pm ET at Campbellsville Baptist Church.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Ghostrider held over at Columbian Theatre

ACHS Cheerleading clinic March 26-29, 2007

The ACHS cheerleaders will be having their yearly cheerleading clinic March 26th-29th at the ACHS gym. Clinic will run each night from 6:00-8:00pm CT. Registration will begin on that Monday night at 5:15pm CT. The cost is $30.00 per person and it is open to anyone 3 years of age and up.

Read Adair County event March 1, 2007, at ACES

The annual "Read Adair County" event will be held Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Adair County Elementary School from 4:30 - 6:30pm. Lots of events are planned including reading rooms and free pizza and drinks for all.

There will be face painting, storybook characters, Kids on the Block puppets, Bingo for Books and interactive literacy activities for students and adults. Everyone is invited to join us for this annual family reading event.

Tryouts for ACHS cheerleading squads April 11, 2007

Tryouts for the ACHS cheerleading squads will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 3:30pm CT in the ACHS gym. Tryouts are open to any student who will be in the 8th-12th grade next year.

There will be two varsity squads next year. The Blue and Red squads. Both squads will cheer football together and rotate the boys and girls varsity basketball games.

If you are interested in trying out please pick up an information packet from Julie McQueary or Robyn Mantooth at Adair County High School or Jamie McQueary at Adair County Middle School. If you have any questions please contact Julie McQueary at achscheercoach@yahoo.com

Obituary: James Tyler Tupman, 84, Columbia businessman

He was a member of a prominent Adair Co. family and a dedicated leader in the Christian Church

James Tyler Tupman, Jr., "J.T.," 84, son of Tyler and Margaret Caldwell Tupman, departed this life February 19, 2007, at Pattie A. Clay Hospital, Richmond, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, February 26, 2007, at 11:00am CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, with Bro. Raymond Martin and Bro. Terry White officiating.

PRIDE Seeking Volunteers for 2007 Spring Cleanup

Local PRIDE Coordinators have begun planning the 2007 PRIDE Spring Cleanup, which will be held April 7 through April 21. A.L. "Pee Wee" Sinclair and Lisa Lee are the Adair County PRIDE Co-Coordinators. Carolyn Edwards, the Columbia City Clerk/Treasurer, is the city's PRIDE Coordinator.

"I invite you to lend a hand during the Spring Cleanup to protect the environment for your children and children's children, and most of all, for the feeling of PRIDE," said Sinclair. He is the county's Solid Waste Coordinator and has volunteered as a PRIDE Coordinator since 1997.

Injury accident Thursday on US 127, Liberty

An injury accident occurred at 12:15pm, Thursday, February 22, 2007, in the limits of Liberty, KY, on US 27.

Dean Whitlow, 43, Somerset, KY, operating 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup, attempted to turn onto US 127 from Sugars Hill Road and pulled into the path of a 2000 Dodge traveling north on US 127, operated by Jeff Lawhorn, 40, Liberty, KY.

The Adair County Middle School Academic Team won the overall competition in the Regional for Governor's Cup last night, Thursday, February 22, at Clinton County. They will now advance to the state competition in Louisville.

Beatrice Jessee was Vice President of Adair Progress for 18 years and had worked at Universal Castings Corporation for 34 years

Beatrice Jessee, 74, 40 Newspaper Circle, Columbia, KY, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at 9:35pm at her home, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Sunday, February 25, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Stanley Watson the officiating clergy.
