Dr. Grady McMurtry to teach at New Life for the Nations

Dr. Grady McMurtry, Biblical Scientific Creationist will be at New Life for the Nations church Friday, February 23, 2007, at 6:30pm CT, and on Saturday, February 24 at 9:00am and 10:30am. Topics of teaching will be "Mt. St. Helens, the road to man, what is really in the ground." Everyone is invited to attend. Adair County Justice Center project moves ahead

Drainage, storm water problems addressed. Construction start date projected for June 2007, with completion projected by November 2008. Intersection, perimeter aesthetics new concerns

The outlook for the new Adair County Justice Center is upbeat, for the moment. Michael Hesse, engineer for DLZ, Kentucky, the Frankfort architectural firm for the project reported that soil samples for the new siting of the building closer to the Columbia Cemetery have been analyzed and that no problems were discovered.

CU to present Philip Amalong in concert Feb. 22, 2007

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KYPianist Philip Amalong will be returning to Campbellsville University for a guest recital Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 8pmET/7pmCT in The Gheens Recital Hall of the Gosser Fine Arts Center.

Amalong presented a "spectacular program" at CU in 2004, according to Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music. His program will include literature by Handel, Beethoven, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Antheil, Harris and Rorem.

The public is invited to the free recital.

P&Z approved zoning revisions are now online

Revised P&Z ordinance has P&Z approval. Now goes to Columbia City Council for changes, if any, approval or disapproval. No further public comment in City Council, though Council may deliberate revision package

The revised Columbia City Planning and Zoning ordinance, approved by the P&Z Commission at its regular February meeting and recommended for final approval by the Columbia City Council, is now online for viewing at Kriss Lowry & Associates, Inc. website.

The changes being made can be seen in red text color until its first reading by the City Council. City Clerk Carolyn Edwards said that she anticipates the first reading in the regular March 2007 first Monday meeting, March 5, 2007, at 6:00pm.

The turn-out for Governor Ernie Fletcher's visit was exceptionally strong, with some 75-80 seated in the audience, 8 seated in the speaker's area, and the crowd line around the wall, a total of a 150-plus count for the turnout for Gov. Ernie Fletcher appeared to pretty accurate.

It was good theater. And pretty strong evidence that the political obituary of the incumbent Governor was quite pre-mature. If the governor is getting similar receptions in other areas to the one he received in Columbia on Friday, he may be making a Swarzenegger-like comeback.

How a dream becomes reality is always an interesting study. With whom does the dream originate? How does the dreamer persuade others to share the dream? When the dream becomes reality, how does it mature? Where does the original dreamer fit in?

In 1996 Robert Straus took time to examine the thirty-year realization of the dream of a new medical school for Kentuckians in his book A Medical School is Born: A History of the Conception, Gestation, and Infancy of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine By One Who Assisted in the Delivery (McClanahan Publishing House, 1996).
