Feedback: Lucy Katherine has Chelf eyes

To the editor

Yes, this little girl really does have the Chelf eyes. My father was Presley Chelf from Knifley, and I live in Knifley now. I cannot remember Paul Chelf but I know he is my relative. I would like to hear more about the Chelf history. I do have some of it recorded, but always like to hear more.

Maurita Chelf Herron
Thanks, Maurita, for impartially affirming our verdict. (Lucy's parents are both lawyers.) Next time, we may even get a picture of Lucy dressed in official Chelf blue to make the obvious more so. We'll try to put other Chelfs in touch with you. We hope all of them will remember to contribute to and use the resources of the Genealogy Room at the Janice Holt Giles Memorial Library in Columbia. Thanks for writing. -Cousin Ed

'at's a Chelf, no matter what they say in Pennsylvania

2007-02-09 - Indiana - Photo Grandfather Bob Chelf.

Anybody in Knifley, KY could take one look at her eyes and tell you that this beautiful lady is a Chelf, no matter the argument from her Devenney paternal line in Pennsylvania that she's all Devenney. Either way, Lucy Katherine Devenney is the queen bee of Carmel, IN. She's the granddaughter of Bob and Andi Chelf and the great granddaughter of the late Paul Chelf, Knifley, KY. Still not quite two years, the photo was taken at Halloween in her scariest bee costume.

Letter: No flood insurance in Adair County

Flood victims found out they were on their own

To the editor,

For the property owners in or near the "lowlands" of Adair County there is no relief available in the form of flood insurance to protect against loss, it is simply unavailable in a county that does not participate in the National Flood Protection Program.

Up until now there has been little interest in flood insurance. The perception was there were too few affected and a limited potential flood hazard. Maybe that perception should be re-evaluated. As we saw September 23, 2006, when we received 7 inches of rain over a few hours, there was no federal assistance coming in the way of Federal Disaster Area declarations, those who were flooded out then were . . . on there own.
