Obituary: Russell Arnold, 92, veteran of World War II

Mr. Arnold was a member of a prominent Adair County family. He was a farmer and a longtime businessman in Columbia. He was member of the Columbia-Presbyterian Church. He will be accorded military honors by Columbia VFW Post 6097

Russell Arnold, 92, 103 Hurt ST, Columbia, KY, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at 6:55pm CT, at Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, February 12, 2007, at 10am CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Richard Guerrant officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery with military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.

Dr. McQuaide teaches CWC kids about fossils



2007-02-08 - Photo By Kim Downs. Dr. Glenn McQuaide, Professor of Biology from Campbellsville University, visited Mrs. Kim Downs, 1st grade, and Mrs. Pam Phipps, 2nd grade, classes at Colonel Wm. Casey to help them learn more about fossils. The classes have been learning about fossils and Dr. McQuaide even brought each student a fossilized shark tooth. The students learned what fossils are and saw many different kinds of fossils. Dr. McQuaide also brought his favorite fossil experiment, "Digging for fossils inside a chocolate chip cookie."

Obituary: Inez Marie Thompson, 94

Mrs. Thompson was the head of a large family who leaves 35 living descendents

Inez Marie Thompson, 94, formerly of Columbia, KY, died Monday, February 5, 2007, at the Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA.

The funeral service will be Sunday, February 11, 2007, at 1:00pm CT at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY with Rev. Joseph Payne officiating.

Frank C. "Bulger" Vaughn, 76, a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home, died Thursday, February 8, 2007, at 2:45pm CT, at the nursing home.

The funeral service will be Saturday, February 10, 2007, at 2:00pm CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Four injured when two vehicles collide this morning

Two vehicles collided in the middle of Springfield Valley Hill Road, four miles north of Springfield, KY, resulting in injuries to four occupants and a citation of one driver.

The accident occurred at 11:15am, Thursday, February 8, 2007. Elda Garcia, Springfield, 28, Springfield was operating a 1997 Dodge Dakota eastbound, and Jimmy Trent, 38, Springfield, KY was westbound in a 1992 Chevy S-10. The vehicles collided in the middle of the road.

Mark calendar for State of City, State of County addresses

Judge Melton, Mayor Bell will speak at February 20 Chamber meeting

Judge Ann Melton and Mayor Pat Bell will address the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. The tradition of the annual talks have become the Adair County and Columbia equivalents of the Governor's State of the State and President's State of Nation speeches.

The event at Cranmer Dining Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College is at 11:45am. Lunch at the award-winning Cranmer Dining Center optional.

Judge Melton will outline her program for advancement in her new Adair County Administration and Mayor Bell will discuss his vision for Columbia.

All Chamber Members are encouraged to attend. For additional information contact Executive Director Sue Stivers at 384-6020. A reminder of this program is carried in CM Events.

WRH Auxiliary will have program on strokes

New members are encouraged to attend

The Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary will meet Monday, February 19, at 6:30pm CT, at the Hospital Cafe. A program on "strokes" will be given by means of a special video. Any interested person is invited to attend. All Auxiliary members are also encouraged to attend and to bring a prospective member with you. The welcome mat is always out for new members. Book Review. James C. Klotter: Kentucky Justice, Southern Honor, and American Manhood: Understanding the Life and Death of Richard Reid (Louisiana State University Press, 2003)

On the morning of May 15, 1884, Judge Richard Reid of the Kentucky Superior Court bade his wife goodbye in her sick room, enquiring of her health as she of his and left for downtown Mount Sterling to begin his day's affairs.

After greeting several friends about the courthouse, he befriended a blind woman led by a small orphan boy, giving them liberal alms.

Judge Reid made his way to the office of Judge Calvin Brock to discuss a case of theirs just decided in federal court.

2007 Adair Relay for Life event: Summit Manor at Depot

Summit Manor show for Relay at Dream Depot, Saturday, February 24, 2007

There will be a show for the 2007 Adair County Relay for Life at the Dream Depot, Saturday, February 24, 2007, at 6:00pm until 8:00pm CT. This show is being presented by Summit Manor Nursing Home. The band which will be performing is John Walker and "Still Country." All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Tickets are $6.00 in advance or at the door. Conservation District Cost Share Program Announced

The Adair County Conservation District will be accepting requests for cost share funding under the Kentucky Soil Erosion and Water Quality Cost Share Program beginning February 1 and extending through February 28, 2007.

The Kentucky Soil Erosion and Water Quality Cost Share Program was in 1994 created by the Kentucky General Assembly to help agricultural and silviculture operations protect the soil and water resources of the Commonwealth.
