The funeral service will be Thursday, January 25, 2007, at 1:00pm CT, at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Hugh Gannon officiating.

Working cattle yoke manufactured in Adair Co. by Junior Walker

Junior Walker, Sparksville, Adair County's most enterprising man, had this newly crafted working cattle yoke on display at Flatwoods Grocery yesterday, January 22, 2007. The main part yoke is carved of buckeye, and the bows are carved from hickory. The steel ring was made in Walker's own smithy, on his own blacksmith forge It's the fifth yoke Mr. Walker has made since he carved his first at age 12, for neighbor, Oscar Gowen who was trying to work steers without a yoke. Tools employed were a drawing knife, chisel, and, for smoothing, a chainsaw. The yokes take about 3 days to make, Walker said. This one is for his daughter Cindy to use as decorative art in her den, but he's at work on a second that he'll sell for $150. Walker's yokes are practical. "They are raising red cattle to work like oxen now," he said, "and of course you can work steers, if you train them while they're young."

Last night at approximately 9:00pm, I saw a cat that looked alot like Buddy run across Hwy 80 between Central Ky Realty and Nissan.

Richards-Brown III to Launch Campaign Bowling Green

  • KY House Speaker to announce campaign for Governor in statewide tour
  • Campaign theme is "Honest Talk for Real Change"
  • Candidates will cross state in four days of speeches
Several Adair Countians are expected to be in attendance tomorrow, Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at 9:00am, upstairs at the Old Warren County Courthouse, when a favorite son, Kentucky Speaker of the House of Representatives Jody Richards, , formally kicks off his campaign for Governor of Kentucky.

Richards will be joined by his Lt. Governor running mate, former Secretary of State John Y. Brown III when the introduce their , "Honest Talk for Real Change," tour. The tour will begin at the Warren County Courthouse.

Corps of Engineers' official story on Wolf Creek Dam situation

NASHVILLE, TENN. (January 22, 2007) - The Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, today announced plans to lower the lake level at Wolf Creek Dam, in Russell County, KY, effective immediately to 680 feet, in response to Corps and independent studies that have classified the dam as being at "high risk" for structural failure.

Normal pool levels are 723 feet in the summer and 690 feet in the winter. Dam safety experts will continually monitor conditions at Wolf Creek and further reductions may be necessary depending on the effect that lower lake levels have on the dam.
