Feedback: from former proprietor, Clay Ridge Grocery

Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com

I love Columbia magazine

I used to live in Adair County and operated the Clay Ridge Grocery for a while where I made quite a few friends.

It is nice to see what all is happening in the old neighborhood.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks,
Jim

Rev. Joey N. Welsh, Jan. 21, 2006. Misdirected life an exciting ride

ANOTHER ANGLE: the occasional musings of a Kentucky pastor

By The Rev. Joey N. Welsh E-mail: joey_n_welsh@hotmail.com

LAINNETNEC YAW-GNORW

The title to this column is not some kind of typographical train wreck or electronic snafu. All you must do to understand it to read the letters right to left -- WRONG-WAY CENTENNIAL. Monday marks 100 years since the birth of one of the most interesting characters of the 20th Century. Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan was born in Galveston, Texas on January 22, 1907.

People of faith are often concerned about going the "right way" in life and avoiding the "wrong way." Folks with a sense of order and tradition sometimes get wrapped up in making sure to do things the "right way" instead of the "wrong way." Douglas Corrigan gained his fame by going the "wrong way."

Feedback: Robert Fishback wants to do Young Mill painting

Mr. Waggener

I am an artist and would be interested in doing a painting of this mill. If I could contact the owner(s) of the photos. If this would be possible I would appreciate any information or link of communication with them.

Bob

Local History Feedback: A.O. Young, Jr. on the Young Mill

Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com

I do have a picture but my computer is messed up and I am unable to send it at this time.

I remember as a little boy going to grind corn at the mill.

At one time my dad sawed lumber, generated electricity for the house, ground corn, cleaned seed, and at one time it was a flour mill as well.

Feedback: Arisen from the use of a word

Which honyock are you?

Culture & Enlightenment editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Ed, you sort of took me aback when you labeled yourself with this word.

So I did enough research to prompt me to raise this question.

Tom Chaney, January 21, 2007: Thomas Jefferson

Of Writers and Their Books: "A Philosopher Surveys His Country"

By Tom Chaney

Thomas Jefferson, of course, was the chief author of the Declaration of Independence. During the Revolutionary War he was governor of Virginia, the largest of the colonies. As governor, he had a pretty rough time of it, what with the British dashing about in his native state and making life uncomfortable for him on his magical mountain at Monticello. In fact he even had to flee to escape the pesky redcoats accompanied by Benedict Arnold.
