Obituary: Elbert Piercy, 91, World War II veteran Mr. Piercy was a member of Edwards Chapel UMC in Wayne County. He was a former factory worker and a retired farmer. Elbert Piercy, 91, 987 Green Hills Roads, Columbia, KY, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at 1:54pm CT, at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY. The funeral service is Saturday, January 13, 2007, at 11:00am at Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church in Wayne County, with Bro. Clifton Bennett officiating. Larry Smith at WHVE-FM 92.7 to receive top AP Award Since he was shown the light by a Taylor County minister, since he joined Harris & Reed, life has gotten better and better for recipient. He's just received word that he will receive the Associated Press Award for Excellence in Broadcasting, Broadcaster of the Year. Smith learned of the award in a telephone call this morning, Thursday, January 11, 2007. "This is huge. This is the greatest radio experience I've ever had," he said, and adds, "good things just seem to be happening to me since I joined The Wave." CPD officers make early morning arrest in burglary case The Columbia Police Department arrested Christopher Janes, 26, of Columbia, KY, at 4:45 this morning, Thursday, January 11, 2007, charging him with burglary 3rd degree and forgery, 2nd degree.Police say the arrest came after Janes had broken into Sexton & Cox Auto and was attempting to cash a check at Fivestar. Police say the check had been taken in the burglary at Sexton & Cox. Janes was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. Link: Rep. Jeff Hoover for lieutenant governor? A Ryann Alessi story in today's Lexington Herald says that 83rd District Rep. Jeff Hoover has been asked by for U.S. Representative Ann Northup if he would run as lieutenant Governor if Northup challenges Gov. Ernie Fletcher in this year's Republican primary election. Hoover, who lives in Jamestown, KY, is Adair County School District Attorney, maintains a law office next to Burton Real Estate on the Square in Columbia, and has deep Adair County roots.
