Obituary: Rex Coffey, 46, widely known businessman

Mr. Coffey was a deacon of the Beech Grove Separate Baptist Church

Rex Coffey, 46, 7944 South Hwy 55, Glens Fork, KY, died Sunday morning, June 11, 2006, at the Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN.

The funeral service for Mr. Coffey will be Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Matt Cowan and Bro. Stanley Watson the officiating clergy.

Beech Grove Vacation Bible School was celebrating with cookout



2006-06-12 - Beech Grove Separate Baptist Church - Photo CM Staff. A COOKOUT WHICH STARTED AT 6:00PM to celebrate the completion of Vacation Bible School started out a happy affair, until the wrap, when Rex Coffey was mortally wounded with a rifle shot. The West KY 900 3-mile marker can be seen; the church is three miles from Glens Fork, on the road to Melson Ridge.

"Tammy Coffey has requested a motorcycle escort for Rex's funeral Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia.

'Dr. Portman' is probably Dr. Perryman in Mrs. Grant's article

I believe 'Dr. Portman' is probably Dr. Perryman.

I have heard the Perryman name pronounced with only two syllables at times and it would sound similar to 'Portman' perhaps.

The 2006 summer season officially began with Memorial Day weekend. And for members of the Lindsey Wilson College community, summer is a great time to catch up on books that were neglected from August through May because of the hustle and bustle of the academic year.

Driver taken to Russell County hospital after Friday accident

A Dunnville, KY, driver, 17 year old Tiffany J. Bowmer, Dunnville, was treated and released following a two-car collision at 9:25pm, Friday, June 9, 2006.

The accident occurred on US 127, 1.5 miles north of Russell Springs, KY.

Edward Bulwer-Lytton, First Baron Lytton (1803-1873) had a way with words. Unfortunately, his way was often long, florid and overwrought. His famous opening sentence to the novel, Paul Clifford, begins with, "It was a dark and stormy night" and runs on for over 50 words more before at last finding a period. An annual contest named for Bulwer-Lytton recognizes overly-long opening sentences that are similarly over the top.
