Did you know squirrels eat donuts?

2006-06-07 - back yard - Photo by Linda Waggener. WOULD YOU HAVE GUESSED THAT SQUIRRELS LIKE TO EAT DONUTS? This gray squirrel in my Aunt Gin's back yard comes every day to see what's for breakfast. If there is nothing on his perch attached to the water maple tree, he marches right up the porch steps, hands on hips, and demands human food. He also enjoys toast and peanuts. On this recent morning, donuts were on the menu and that was fine with him. He held it sideways and ate the top off, to get all the sugar.
