Columbia City Council Special Meeting, May 30, 2006: Better Tv First Reading of Ordinance starts process for Duo-County Telephone Cooperative to begin operations here with cable, broadband, other communications service. Duo-County has purchased cable company. Non-exclusive 15-year franchise. Jamestown cooperative ready to take over at end of June. Better Tv almost immediate. Fast Broadband will be offered. Company will have local office, CEO Magruder says. Duo-County will offer all communications services with charges on one bill. Columbia will be a major part of co-op's business. Communications services will now be about as Local as it gets. By Ed Waggener It is called "Ordinance No. 450.12," and was introduced today as the "Cable Television Ordinance: for the City of Columbia, KY." The non-exclusive ordinance was reveewed in a 10 minute 1:00 p.m. session. The impact of the event may be as great as any in recent history. Kendra Lea Leveridge of Columbia, KY a 2006 LWC alumna, represented the college at the 76th Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival. She is the daughter of Mark and Cindy Harris, of Lindsey Wilson Street in Columbia, KY. Kendra has an eight-year-old sister, Bailey Harris. David R. Claycomb, 75, Veteran of Korean War He enjoyed family, fishing, gardening, basketball, history and wildlife David R. Claycomb, 75, of Lampton Lane, Columbia, passed away Monday, May 29, 2006 at the Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green after an illness. Services will be at Grissom Funeral Home on Wednesday. He was born on May 28, 1931 to the late Herbert Ray and Mary Hughes Claycomb. He graduated from Lindsey Wilson Junior College, transferred to Berea College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was united in marriage to the former Virgie Lee Carr on November 26, 1960, and to this union one son was born.
