Marion Rescue extricates entrapped driver from vehicle in creek

Truck had run off bridge. Driver flown to UL Hospital
An Elizabethtown man, Calvin N. Nomix, 55, was rescued from his overturned truck by Marion County Rescue and flown to the University of Louisville.

The accident occurred Saturday, May 6, 2006 10 minutes before noon, 4.2 miles north of Lebanon, KY.

'Tis said that an expert is a person at least fifty miles from home. I try to make it my practice to stay beyond that limit. I look on the fifty mile limit for story telling for a fee much as depression era bootleggers honored the three mile offshore limit in the rum running days of prohibition.

A couple of weeks ago, I skirted the near edge of that free zone in Columbia at Lindsey Wilson College. Phil Hanna, poor soul, in an effort to get himself permanently barred from the college lecture committee, asked me to come and tell stories to the assembled throngs one lovely spring day.

Bertha Burton, 83, member of Freedom Separate Baptist Church

Mrs. Burton was a highly respected member of the community and was the beloved matriarch of a large family She leaves 58 living descendants. Her passing marks a significant moment in the history of the Burton family of Adair County, as she was the last survivor of a generation. She will be remembered by hundreds of former Colonel Casey School students for her many years there. Mrs. Burton was an Honorary Kentucky State Trooper, with three sons and a grandson on the force
Bertha Burton, 83, 178 Denver Coe Road, Russell Springs, KY, formerly of Columbia, KY, passed away Friday at 9:32 a.m., at her home following an illness.

The funeral service will be Monday, May 8, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Richard Curtis, Bro. Carlie Riggs, and Bro. David Coffey officiating. Interment will be in Freedom Cemetery.

Columbia firm makes loan to Pulaski Co. Rescue Squad for a year.

WASHINGTON, DC. U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers announced today that the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad recently received two Kawasaki Jet Skis, furnished by Rex's Cycle of Columbia, KY, that will enhance rescue capabilities along Pulaski County's waterways and coastlines.

Adair Arts Council says 'thank you' for response to expansion efforts

The Adair Arts Council would like to say 'thank you' to everyone who turned out Tuesday, May 2, 2006 for the dinner and organizational meeting. Around fifty Adair Countians enjoyed a private buffet of salads, carved roast beef, chicken over rice, steamed vegetables, green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy and snicker pie at Lindsey Wilson's Cranmer Dining Center. Purple spring iris in cut glass vases graced each table.

This event was about leadership and expansion in efforts to open up more areas of the arts to more people. Arts Council membership is open to the public.

North 55 accident at 4:15 a.m. results in two being airlifted


Sheriff's Office says criminal charges pending against driver;
SO, Adair EMS, and Adair Rescue Squad responded

A single vehicle accident on North 55 at around 4:30 a.m., Saturday morning, May 6, 2006, resulted in two Campbellsville men being flown to separate medical facilities.
