Bee Keepers Association meets at home of Stanley and Shirley Jones

The Green River Bee Keepers Assocation met Saturday, April 22, at the home of Stanley and Shirley Jones on Kellyville Road in Adair County.

A total of 35 attended including members, family and guests with some traveling from as far as Oldham County.

Cyrus issues bear alert: They are nigh, about 38 miles east up the LBN

That good man, Bill Mardis, the Commonwealth-Journal's editor emeritus. wries again about bears in the paper over there. Bears are becoming commonplace in Pulaski County, he reports.

Cyrus sends a link to a story in the Commonwealth-Journal, the daily newspaper in Somerset, on the latest sightings of bears, both black (numerous, latest April 24, the April 28 story says) and white (three total sightings, maybe of the same bear), in the Somerset area.

Clarice Smith, 87, member Glens Fork Christian Church

Services will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home for Clarice Smith, age 87. She passed away Sunday at her home in Bowling Green. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Glens Fork Christian Church and a homemaker.

She was the daughter of the late James Otha and Nina Elizabeth Wesley Miller of Glens Fork. She was preceded in death by her husband George Eustace Smith in 1958.

Just wanted to let you know that I have an interview with Miss USA Tara Elizabeth Conner on Tuesday morning May 2, 2006, at around 7 a.m. via telephone.

I talked with the Miss Universe Organization earlier today and they confirmed that Tara will be calling in around that time.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the theft of a vehicle and 4-wheeler which was stolen some time Saturday night after 10:00 p.m., from the Long John Silver's parking lot on Jamestown Street in Columbia, KY.

Columbians, one from Russell CO, among 9-person LWC honors group

Columbians are Harvey Schullist and Monica Spencer; Adam Spencer is Russell Countian inducted into Sigma Tau Delta

Two students from Columbia, KY, one from Russell County, KY, are among nine students inducted into English honor society at Lindsey Wilson College .

The nine were inducted on April 23 into the Alpha Kappa Phi chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society.

Columbia City Council AGENDA regular meeting May, 2006

Complete seven item agenda now added.

Appointments of four new members to the Columbia Planning & Zoning Commission is expected to be highlight of meeting tonight. Mayor says he will appoint Flowers, French, Kolbenschlag and Stivers to fill terms of member who quit in mass resignation.

Mayor Patrick R. Bell said in a private interview on Sunday, April 30, 2006, that he will recommend four new members of the Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission tonight at the Council's regular May meeting, which starts at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall.

The four will replace Joe Pyles, V.T. Yarberry, George Keltner, and Tim Bradshaw, who resigned in protest last month because the anticipated rejection of a zoning change recommendation for 503 Greensburg ST.

Bull Run Road man arrested; Check finds he's wanted in Metcalfe

Action takes place on Sunday, April 30, 2006. Investigation of officers at KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, continues. More chargers are expected.
A wanted suspect was located in Columbia, KY, and arrested by three-man team

After receiving an unrelated complaint on Omar Lopez, Troopers checked the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and discovered that he was wanted for assault on a police officer in Metcalfe CO, KY.

Officer's entered Lopez' home on Bull Run Road on Sunday, April 30, 2006, and took him into custody without incident.
