It's now been over five days since Christian Wheeler escaped custody while on a medical visit to Westlake Regional Hospital, and there's still no word of him or of the Green 1995 Jeep Cherokee belonging to his guard, Deputy Jailer Rachel Moore, in which he escaped.

That incident occurred at 2:00 a.m., Sunday, April 23, 2006.

Christian N. Wheeler: Fugitive search now in sixth day



2006-04-27 - Adair County Regional Jail, Columbia, KY - Photo Adair County Regional Jail. He didn't say cheese, smile, or open his eyes when this intake photograph was taken. Christian N. "Chris" Wheeler is wanted on an Adair County Warrant on three felony counts growing out of his escape early Sunday morning, at 2:00 a.m., April 16, 2006. He is described as follows: 31 years of age, white male 5'6" tall, weighs approximately 156 pounds, has brown hair, and blue eyes. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts or the whereabouts of the Jeep Cherokee in which he escaped are asked to call Columbia City Police, 270-384-4119. Officer Josh Brockman is investigating the case.

Robert Cecil Pankey, 70, Air Force Veteran

Mr. Pankey was retired from the State Occupational Safety & Health Agency and was a member of the Baptist Church at Deep Creek, Mercer CO, KY. His wife, the former Betty Jean Branham of Adair County, survives
Robert "Bob" Cecil Pankey, 70, 266 College ST, Woodburn, KY, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 9:10 a.m., at his home.

The funeral will be Monday, May 1, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, KY, with Dr. Tim Harris the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Lebanon National Cemetery in Lebanon, KY, with military rites.

Lower benefits, higher health payments in store for Adair CO employees

Retire the thought of retirement for 83-year-old state worker

The remarkable story of Monroe County native Christine Crowe who is still at work at age 83; many in Adair County would know her. She is the sister of former Monroe County Court Clerk Paul Crowe and was his deputy; taught in one room Monroe County School.

Christine Crowe is not your typical worker. At 83, she is the oldest full-time employee of the Kentucky Education Cabinet and after more than 47 years on the job, retirement is not in her vocabulary.

The Monroe County native is a placement interviewer in the Louisville KentuckianaWorks One Stop Career Center in the cabinets Office for Employment and Training (OET).

CYRUS: Willis Acree's brother first Adair Countian killed in WWII


Patriotic famly paid tremendous price in defense of America

Adair County is saddened this week by the death of Mr. Willis Acree, a highly respected Adair County veteran. His family has sacrificed so much for America. Mr. Acree's brother, Sgt. Frank Ross Acree, was the first Adair Countian killed in action in World War Two. He was killed on December 27, 1942, in New Guinea. - CYRUS.
