4-H leadership program students at State Capitol



2006-03-21 - Frankfort - Photo courtesy of 4-H. ADAIR COUNTY STUDENTS EXPERIENCING THE STATE CAPITOL TRIP included members of the Teen and Youth Leadership Programs. The high school students involved in the new leadership program are: Rawan Shahin, Lydia Tiller, Katie Royse, Alesha Compton, Brittany Brockman. The middle school students on the trip were: Cassie Rogers, Julie Wilson, Dariann Smith, Baylee Johnson, Ashley Sullivan, Shawntae Burton, Ryan Montgomery, Will Rich, Payton Barnes, Sarah Thompson, and Katlyn Wallace. Adults helping the with Frankfort trip and the leadership program are Alma Rich and Gary Curry.

Poison Prevention at Home is theme of Kelli Bonifer's Extension News

National Poison Prevention Week is observed annually during the third week of March. Understanding the importance of poison prevention can be a case of life or death for you or one of your family members.

A poison is any substance that can cause harm or unintended symptoms. Poisons come in four common forms including: Solids such as soap, medicine, and plants; Liquids including bleach, detergent, perfume, and lighter fluid; Sprays such as insect spray, cooking spray, and paint; and Gases that include carbon monoxide, exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, kerosene or oil fumes from heating sources.

Brise Miller Morrison, 80, Fairplay, KY, died Monday, March 20, at 1:00 p.m., at the Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 1:00 p.m., at Grissom Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Elbert Hadley and Rev. Jesse Hagan officiating.

4-H Leadersip program takes learning trip to Frankfort; talk meet coming up

Note: The upcoming Adair County 4-H Talk meet and Demonstration are open to all youth ages 9-18 years of age. See below for dates.

Adair County Extension Agent for 4-H/Youth Development

On March 9and 10, ten local students participated in the 4-H Capitol Experience program. On March 9 and 10 the students had the chance to meet Senator McGaha and Representative Mobley and served as pages in the House and Senate.

The youth who participated in the Capitol Experience were members of the Teen and Youth Leadership Programs.

The high school students involved in the new leadership program are: Rawan Shahin, Lydia Tiller, Katie Royse, Alesha Compton, Brittany Brockman. Blake Aaron accepted into People to People Academic Program

Program was founded by President Eisenhower in 1956; Adair student will earn high school credit for participation
Blake Aaron, a student at John Adair Intermediate School, Columbia, KY, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum.

Aaron will join a select group of students in Washington, DC, April 3-9, to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United States' most prominent monuments and institutions.

Adair County Board of Education Report, regular March meeting



Board starts process for sale of Knifley, Shepherd, and Sparksville Property. Five new positions created. Football Lettermen satisfied with Board response to concerns. Knifley, Shepherd, and Sparksville uniforms to be disposed of by principals. ACES will be open fall of '06, despite problems in one area of construction.
