Gradyville Goose brings back memories of goose-stepping drllls

Uncle made his 'platoon,' the author, then a teenage boy, drill with porch broom in lieu of rifle, while older brother stood on the sidelines and laughed; this was same uncle who sometimes made his wife drive him up and down Meridian, while he, as Napoleon, waved to his subjects. He was born raising hell.

The recent photo of the Gradyville street-walking goose brought back memories of my misspent youth.

My youngest uncle was born raising hell and after hitting the shores of Europe in the fall of 1944, about the time he turned 19 and just in time for the Battle of the Bulge, he was a sure-'nuf certified nutso wild child.

The Marshall Twins



2006-03-07 - City Hall, Columbia, Adair CO, KY - Photo Staff. The Columbia City Council Marshall Twins, City Attorney Marshall Loy ("The Real Marshall" according to Ralph Roy Waggener, Mayor Bell noted while the photo was being taken) and Senior Councillor Larry Marshall beam following the 30 minute regular March meeting of City Council, on Monday evening. The two had the spotlight most of the session, introducing and reading ordinances. They had reason to smile. Many present thought they did real good.

The morning of August 9, 2005, I read Genesis 35. I highlighted this in the commentary; Many people believe that Christianity should offer a problem-free life. Consequently, as life gets tough, they draw back disappointed. Instead, they should determine to prevail with God through lifes storms. Problems and difficulties are painful but inevitable; you might as well see them as opportunities for growth. You cant prevail with God unless you have troubles to prevail over. Little did I know when I read that around 6:00 a.m. that my chance to prevail would begin in just hours.

COLUMBIA, KY - An Adair County resident was recently honored by the Mid-South Conference for her efforts as a cheerleader at Lindsey Wilson College.

Shaunna Turner was named to the Mid-South Conference All-Academic Cheerleading Team.

Columbia City Council meeting report: Monday, March 6, 2006

Utilities rate increase, to address dire need, gets first reading. Grease trap ordinance gets second reading. School annexation moves ahead. Council hears request for more City funding of City Cemetery Grants may help get more sidewalks, bikeways, and improve local Homeland Security. Marshall Twins get the spotlight. In last night's Columbia City Council meeting, the Council, an overall sewer increase of 12% and water rate increase 12% received a first reading. With the reading came warning from Councilman Larry Marshall, who also sits on the utility board. Marshall warned, "The situation is dire" along with a request that council members who have questions ask before the next meeting.
