Victim of suspected drug overdose in Casey dies this morning

Case is fourth drug OD death investigation in Casey County within last three weeks; in two other overdose cases in Casey, the victims survived
At around 9:07 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2006, Kentucky State Police received a call about a possible drug overdose at the Casey County Hospital.

When officers arrived at the scene, the Casey County Coroner Tommy Clark had already declared Mark Anthony Sharp deceased.

2006-03-02 - Unidentified location: Indianapolis? - Photo unidentified photographer. From the photo collection of Wanda Beard.. This is a photo of the well remembered 1916 Packard Twin Six touring car, with Paul Young driving. Wanda Beard owns the photo, but is unsure of the location of the event. The other car in the photo has an Indiana tag. Perhaps it's Indianapolis. Can anyone identify the towers or any other landmarks in the photo? You help will be appreciated.

Investigation continues into early morning church fire at Burkesville

No foul play is suspected, but Arson investigator, State Fire Marshal's office FBI respond to scene
At around 3:51 a.m., Thursday morning, March 2, 2006, Burkesville 911 received a call of a church fire at the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Spencer ST in Burkesville, Cumberland CO, KY.

The Burkesville Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze.

It sounds like a strange question, but all members of the Cowan families in Adair County can trace their ancestry back to one Burton and one Cowan. Thomas Cowan and Elizabeth "Betsy" Burton are the founders of all the Cowans in Adair County.

Law enforcement units combine to arrest Columbia woman on drug charge

Arrest is made on an arrest warrant from Russell County
The Kentucky State Police HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Drug Task Force, Russell Springs Police Department, and the Adair County Sheriff's Office arrested Irene Curtis, 59, of Columbia, KY, on Monday.

2005 Kentucky employments shows ironies: Bad unemployment, record 2000s job gain

For year 2005, Kentucky's unemployment was 6.1%, up from 5.5 for 2004

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 2, 2006) - Kentuckys annual unemployment rate went up from 5.5 percent in 2004 to 6.1 percent in 2005, but at the same time Kentuckys employment recorded a net gain of 26,800 jobs, a record increase since 2000, according to the Office of Employment and Training (OET) in the Department for Workforce Investment.
