Text of letter from neighbors opposed to zone change for 503 Greensburg ST

This is the letter from neighbors sent to the Planning and Zoning Commission in response to the proposal from the owners of 503 Greensburg to have the lot zoning changed from R-2 to C-2 in order to accommodate a new dry cleaning, alteration, and laundry facility. Letter to Zoning Commission for Proposed Dry Cleaning establishment

This is a copy of the letter sent to the Columbia Planning & Zoning Commission requesting a change for 503 Greensburg ST from R-2 to C-2 commercial. The letter did not have a date. It was signed by Gary Corbin, with the names of Donna Smith, Dr. Roger Smith, and Cynthia Corbin typed. The letter of protest from neighbors Morris and Anissa Grubbs, William and Betty Conn, and Roy and Christine Rademacher is posted separately on this website.

P&Z Dry Cleaners decision expected at March 2, 2006 meeting

Update: February 28, 2006: City Clerk Carolyn Edwards says matter meeting to decide Dry Cleaning recommendation has been postponed to Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. Other zoning change requests will be added to the meeting agenda

Hearing Monday night has those for the change emphasizing the safety of the business. Opponents stress opposition to spot zoning. Property owners offer to sell the property, with stiff time limits. Offer to request reversion to residential if they should need to move to expand. One owner says that Industrial Recruiter Martin Jones refused to discuss sale of property for cleaning operation in the Green River Industial Park.

In Monday afternoon's hearing in City Hall on the new application from the owners of 503 Greensburg ST to change the lot from R-2 Residential to C-2 Highway Oriented Commercial, spokespersons from both sides were heard, but no action was taken on the request. The owners propose to locate a dry cleaning and laundry establishment, C & S Cleaners, in the building.

Nunn Parkway/KY 61 Interchange.

February is designated Black History Month. African Americans who made a significant difference in the lives of others are brought to our attention. One such man is Hiram Jackman who was born a slave in 1845 near Creelsboro. His owner, recognizing the little boy as being brilliant, defied the law forbidding anyone to teach a slave to read and write; he taught Hiram.
