Donald Ray ''Donnie'' Moon, 49, Veteran and business owner

Funeral services are Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home for Donald Ray "Donnie" Moon of 370 Country Club Road, Columbia. He passed away Sunday at age 49.

He was the owner of Donnie Moon Builders and was a US Veteran serving in the National Guard.

Progress on the Interchange: New bridge spanning Louie B. Nunn Parkway



2006-01-16 - Greater Bliss, Adair CO, KY - Photo Ed Waggener. In this winter without a winter, construction on the KY 61 interchange with the Louie B. Nunn Parkway is going at an amazing speed. This late afternoon picture shows the new span for the interchange on the right, or east, and the existing one on the left, or west. The big white house is the Gertrude Browning home. The old overpass will be eliminated when the interchange becomes functional and is opened.

Gladys Gerth, 77, formerly of Adair CO, KY, dies in Gibson City, IL

She was a longtime Sunday School teacher at American Lutheran Church
Gladys Gerth, 77, Gibson City, IL, formerly of Adair County, KY, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Gibson City, where she had been a resident for three weeks.

She was the daughter of the late Calvin Jesse and Mary Martha Rexroat Kerr and was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Gerth, on May 14, 1992.

Columbia Marines Knight and Hackney meet Miss Kentucky Tara Conner

Adair County Marines Kristopher Knight and Brandon Hackney reported home for a 30-day leave on December 16, 2005 and today they must head out for combat training in Camp Geiger, NC.

During their time at home, there were two special events. The first very special event was the marriage of Brandon to his girl, Andrea Bell, of Columbia (and we hope to have details and photos of that happy occasion to share with readers soon). The other event was when the guys got to meet Miss Kentucky USA, and Kristopher's Mom shared a photo which accompanies this article of the Marines with the royalty. Miss Kentucky USA, Tara Conner, is from Russell Springs and a graduate of Russell County High School.

Fire at Tabernacle Christian Church contained to nursery area

The Adair County Fire Department responded to a call about 6:45 p.m. Sunday evening to the Tabernacle Christian Church on Highway 206 in the Neatsville community. Church members were able to put the fire out before the VFW arrived on the scene.

CYRUS/ Varmintology Report From 1971: The Sad Saga of Big Hop

Varmintologist Cyrus traces the W.K. Neat compelling story "Jake Burton's giant grasshopper kidnapped, held for ransom," A W.K. Neat thriller. There is a large bit of Pete Walker influence in the story. Mr. Walker was Dr. Neat's chronicler and co-conspirator in things varmintological. By day, both led led noble, notable lives: Dr. Neat as the thorough but fair PVA; Mr. Walker as a Christian democrat and friend of Governors and an acquaintance of Presidents.
In his "Green River Sprite" Varmintology Report of July 17, 1971, B.K.U.V. founder Dr. W.K. Neat made passing reference to a once and (possibly) future Adair County Varmint of the first water.
