Mack Downey, 67, member Trinity United Methodist, Eastern Star Mrs. Downey is remembered by many for her years of service at Adair Memorial Hospital and Aaron Medical Center. Mack Downey, 67, 2355 Greensburg Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2005, at 3:38 p.m., at the Medical Center of Bowling Green, Bowling Green, KY, after several weeks illness. The funeral service is Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Bro. Randy Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery. Cyrus/Jamestown Street Conflagration, 1941 In Martha Barnes Martin's excellent "Memories of Jamestown Street Neighborhood" she mentioned the loss by fire of the Jamestown Street residence of the Williams sisters, Misses Martha Susan (better known as Mattie) and Maranda. An article in the March 12, 1941 Adair County news stated that the conflagration occurred at "an early hour Friday morning," March 7. The flue had burned out about four o'clock Thursday afternoon, "but it was thought that no damage had been done." The speculation after the fact was that "the flue must have been cracked when it burned out in the afternoon, later causing the fire." County bills Adair School District $11,391.45 for special election Actual cost of the election was less than expected. Paying polling place officers was biggest expense. Estimates for the December 6, 2005, special election had been as high as $15-16,000, but the total sent to the Adair County School District was considerably less. Friday, December 9, 2005, the costs were totalled and Adair County Judge Executive Jerry Vaughan's office billed the district a total of $11,391.45.
